Do something with whack-a-mole from behind cover campers!

Post by Hokunin »

This is just insane. The time I've been absent from game, majority of gamers mastered the "whack-a-mole from behind cover" sit-stand technique. They are literally invincible with dead eye precision. Even if I notice them first they instantly engage in whack a mole mode and here you go - I'm dead. Their light speed popping up - ducking down movements behind cover without losing their aim is ridiculous(on the contrary their aim is getting better). I'm getting killed this way on every map. Its funny to see enemy soldier, the moment he gets into contact he quickly runs to the nearest stone, hill, wall, rubble and starts whack-a-moling; they even try to find a better spot by walking back and forth the hill for a good pop up camping. If you see weird soldier walking back and forth sitting and standing then again walking back and forth - then you know he is a wack-a-moler.

I don't play often, plus I don't want to waste time mastering and employing this technique cuz its seems unnatural and stoopid. This thing kills the atmosphere the everything. DEVs do something. Make sitting animation not flash instant and incorporate stamina for sitting and standing up with aim resetting on every position change.

Can you guess why we don't have things like weapon sway and 30-seat helicopters in this game?

Nightingale, if u're not sure in something - say hardcoded))))

afaik, devs are able to modify animations, making sitting and standing up animation slower with more complex body movements will at least make whack-a-molers vulnerable.

To put it simply, if we could have changed this, we would have a long time ago. Many PR Devs over the years have looked very deeply into this issue and its simply something we can't fix.

As for "modifying the animations", I'm not an animator so I can't say for sure (although I'm pretty damn sure animators like Chuc have looked into this), but I'm pretty sure this problem can't be solved by modifying them and at most, it would just make the issue worse with showing the guy still standing up when you can't actually shoot him, and/or showing the guy still crouched while he is actually shooting at you.

We agree this is one of the worst points about the BF2 engine but there are ways to counter it, like get an LMG or GPMG and suppress them :)

Just do it yourself and enjoy scoring plenty of headshots on whack-a-molers.

The trick is to keep shooting.

I like having everyone in the squad open up on the guy, and then flank him with one or two others.

You mentioned that you've been away for awhile. You just need to re-hone those skills.
