second hand steam game key

Post by PLODDITHANLEY »

My kid enjoys a blast around VBF SP, so when he spotted a COD MW 2 in a boot sale for only $1 we picked it up. I accepted that online play may be impossible but SP would be fine.

Problem is that as it's a steam game you have to create and sign in to an account and when I put in the key it is of course already registered although I could ask the previous owner to remove it that doesn't change the problem.

So steam sell the game/key for $25 which seems very expensive for an older game, incidentally I think there is a big market still in older games like this and VBF that will run well on a cheap computer from poorer emerging countries and even for kids like mine on the family dual core PC.

So I see that there is some 4 star rated key sellers for $8

Is this likely to work, as I said before online probablly isn't available anymore so if they're banned it shouldn't affect SP?

Am I right in assuming that this game can not be played offline or is it just the key bit that needs the net.

Are all modern games like this now e.g. BF 3 & 4? In other word having 0 second hand value?

Thanks guys.

So anyone think one of these $8 keys will work?

I've bought games from G2A in the past and I haven't had any problems with them. Although I've always had the game gifted to me through steam, I never actually bought a 'key'. As long as you get the G2A shield (which is like an extra dollar), you should be able to receive some customer support in case things go wrong. The current keys I see from you link are 5 stars with the exception of one, I would go for the cheaper 5 star rating.

I use G2A because price is a lot lower than steam offers. And did not had a single problem so far. Got BF4 from there.

I've always used G2Play and have never had a problem with any keys.

I usually just wait for steam sales.

Been enjoying Euro truck demo recently but it just ran out....
euro 25 from steam and USD 8 from G2A.

Only thing that bothers me is that it's only the key so I must download it from steam although I don't see this option anywhere, plus its kind of sick that you buy a key from a cheaper place then go and download it from the expensive competitions server.

I am new to this technique of buying stuff, this would be the first time ever to not have a physical DVD, and it all started with a boot sale CODMW2....

EDIT: Found it

So is there always a download available of all games somewhere?

G2a is a good site. Just be aware if you don't purchase shield along with the key and the key happens not to work they won't supply you with the correct key. It's then your problem. I suggest, pay the extra buck or two and get shield. This being said i've bought from g2a many times and a couple of those times without shield and they worked fine.

All you have to do is redeem the key on Steam, which is nowhere as evil or difficult as you make it sound.

My evil impression comes from buying a second hand game, from a known source, to play single player and finding the original key can never be used.
Just an old physical disc guy being dragged kicking and screaming into 2015.

Don't see why steam would happily pay for servers and bandwidth for no gain if we all buy cheaper keys else where.
