How to get 5.1 with Realtek

Post by Sniperstorm2 »

I just build a new PC for the 1.0 release and it has onboard audio. Realtek 7.1. I am using 5.1 Speakers and cannot get project reality to use the 5.1. The sound will only come out of the front speakers. Explosions that are behind me the sound still comes from the front speakers. It is a Gigabyte 99-FX-UD3 mother board. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the full 5.1 to work?

Make sure you download the RealTek drivers direct from Realtek, and not from Gigabyte.
With the realtek drivers is a realtek sound manager program that can be autostarted with windows, and will sit in system tray.
From within that program, you can properly adjust all sorts of audio options for your onboard audio.

My main issues is everything seems to play in the front speakers. I can hear a take in the background and when its in front it me I can hear it in the center speaker, but if I turn 180 I can still hear in in the center speaker.

Does anyone have any suggestions. Its hard to play. I cannot tell by sound if action is behind me or in front because it all playes through the front center speaker.

Did you downlado the drivers direct from Realtek and install them?
DO you have Realtek HD Audio Manager installed?
That program can quickly fix your problem, as well as allow you to alter the timing delays between speakers to better differentiate sound sources. (It's meant for calibrating the speaker locaiton of home theater speakers, but works great for calibrating gaming also)

Yes. I can tell you the sound works perfect 5.1 for alll my games. Just this game, if the sound is directly behind me it will play out of my center channel and I cannot determine where sound comes from. I can her a chopper coming in but if its right behind me it sounds like its in front. hIt sucks trying to hear when gunfights are taking place.

If anyone can help Sniperstorm2 please do so

Sniperstorm2, I don't have a 5.1 setup and can't really offer you much, we got a lot of people using 5.1 and 7.1 integrated and discrete setups, I haven't had this complaint since 1.0 was released. So let's ask the community for help here.

I agree I would really love some help. My old system had and X-fi in it and it was great.

I am using a Gigabyte Motherboard 990fxz-ud3 if that helps.

It's a bit of a necro but I'm having the same problem.
Realtek HD Audio and my sound on my right sounds behind me instead.
It's like it's mono sound for a Stereo Headset I can tell if it's in front/behind due to
intensity but there's no difference between left and right.
