TerrainData.raw error

Post by BleiWolf »

Hello

I have been working on a 4km PR map for about 2 weeks now and I have run into a wall with my progress. The map fails to load past 15% and my suspicion is the terraindata.raw file that im afraid has gone corrupted or otherwise been damaged after a crash 2 days ago.

I have created a smaller test map and it loads and runs just fine so its not the editor itself or my laptop.

Is there any way to fix this error or has my work been thrown down the drain? :(

Is it normal in the editor? If so, try to "resave" your terrain. Hop in terrain editor, then file > resave.

And: always make regular backups of your map!

It shows up normal.

I just deleted the terraindata.raw file and resaved my map on all possible options. Still it crashes when it reaches 15% and it doesnt generate an error message.

I really wish I had a backup now, time to start on a new concept instead.

Do you have any overgrowth on the map? Have you tried in windowed mode, if so what error message do you get?

I have placed overgrowth and windowed mode does not generate an error message.

Maybe you need to edit the terrain and then resave it to really make it updated:
[R-DEV]Amok@ndy wrote:changing the primaryHeightmap is not enough. you need to recompile the terrraindata.raw (usually happens when saving but might not work if the terrain change is to minor (in that case use the smooth tool set a very low detensity and paint somewhere under water or below a building))
Also perhaps you want to check these things:
14%
check mapdata file
check gameplay.con
Re-Generate your Overgrowth
Crash on dedicated server (server side crash) - Missing surrounding terrain .raw files
15%
Patch incompatibilities The patch broke or removed one of your statics
No serverarchives path in tmp. Only important when using a object_server.zip for custom equipment/statics.
Broken terrain.raw
One of the items in your object_server.zip is duplicated in the minimod or main game. IE An m10 Early which is in the mod is also bundled in minimod with an identical name will cause a conflict.

15% Usually some objects problems.

I repainted a large area and added a hill in the middle of the beach. Still no result.

My map does not have any object_server.zip folders nor has there been a patch in between my work. Completely deleting the terraindata.raw does nothing either and im slowly running out of ideas.

Any infamous objects that are not on the list of "Do not use pls"? I have used a few of the house_dest but so have other maps.

Did you tried debugger after just windowed mode? It show more debug info.

Try to launch the map with an empty staticobjects.con, see if that does anything.
Or, try an empty gameplayobjects.con (besides flags and spawnpoints, just no vehicles or anything like that).

Trial and error here really..
