Modern warfare requires fast decissions, that is why squads have marksman (support team) not snipers. In my opinion marksman is superior to sniper in fast paced combat.

Marksman is for attacking squads and support, sniper is for:

recon
denying and delaying attacks from long range.

I play as sniper, sometimes. But it gets boring very quickly.

Another thing that annoys me is large squads just sitting back with TOWs, Mortars and AA and not moving forward.

Depends, squads should be a lil smaller, but mortars are fine (depends on what those snipers/spotters are doing).
