Guide about flying in PR:BF2?
Hi guys,
Has anyone written some guidance about flying in PR:BF2?
I've just been practicing in local co-op.
I had mixed success, I really need to get used to the delayed response after moving my old Sidewinder 2 stick.
Especially the UH-60 seemed to be uncontrollable.
I'm sure there are pilots who can, huge respect!
Do you guys fly with keyboard and mouse?
I build and fly quadcopters as a hobby, so I find it to be very easy to fly helicopters in BF4 (I know...) because on my PS4 I have setup the sticks exactly as my quadcopter controller.
Maybe I should get such a controller for PC as well...

Oh... DS4Windows lets me use my PS4 controller on PC.
I'll try that!

I just fly helis with a mouse, aced it back in the day in BF2, not much different in PR either, just have to be a bit more subtle and gentle.

for helis I use purely keyboard, i find mouse makes it harder to control
the nature of flying helis is that its going to go the direction you point it, and there's no way to stop it, so you need to get used to the flow of the heli to know how its going to react to your inputs, some are super easy to fly, like the Cows, the hueys, BH and chinook can be trickier as they handle more loosely, but once you get used to the flow it's pretty easy

Mouse is the easiest to fly with IMO. It provides you with way more control. I think its better that the keyboard alone, because that only allows you to control in 8 different directions. Haven't tried flying with a joystick, but from what I heard it is very hard with a joystick, and takes getting used to.
Overall, I recommend getting used to mouse and keyboard first, then branching off to other methods, from there its up to you to choose which one feels easiest to you.
Oh and just a quick tip for when you are flying. Every helicopter is different, and every helicopter can only be mastered with practise. Some helicopters like to nose down in flight, like the Huey, and some like to nose up like the Mil Mi-8. When you are flying make no sudden movements and always be countering helicopter movements with your own. Your mouse should always be moving in flight!

Where PR and vBF2 chopper flying differ the most, imo, is where you are at higher speed.
The left/right(W and D, usually) keys do not work at turning your chopper at high speed, you need to fly the chopper more like a jet if you want to turn at a decent pace.
Other than that, everyone needs to practice landing; it's not as easy as holding down S.

I'm gonna retire my old trusty Sidewinder 2 joystick.
The slack on the stick has become ridiculous and there's no precise control possible.
I've hooked up my PS4 controller so let's experiment with that a little, but I have a feeling I'll end up using a mouse and keyboard as well.
The Huey piloting skills in the movie posted here above are amazing!

I recommend mouse and keyboard.
When I started flying, I used keyboard only, then I realised I needed more precise controls, so I changed to joystick. When I realised the joystick was good to fly with, but not very accurate when attacking ground targets + I need keyboard to speak to others, I changed to the hybrid of mouse and keyboard where I have accurate control of where my chopper is heading and the ability to communicate using the mumble keys on the keyboard

Give pure keyboard flight a try. Arrow keys for pitch and roll, WSAD for throttle and rudder. BF2 lacks fidelity, take advantage of it.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

I've been testing my PS4 controller. It works great!
But it might have too few buttons to control everything like weapons switching, map and mumble.
