Re: Free Candy Van
FCV has been running into issues regarding Squad Bug. In fact, due to the increased stability from Linux, we've been running into more issues of players making squads rather than the server crashing itself.
Because of such, for your information if you're reading, FCV Administration will permanently ban any players who have been logged making early squads before 2:00.

Quite a hard punishment for something that is not even 100% confirmed to be the cause of squad bugs.surfacerunner wrote:FCV has been running into issues regarding Squad Bug. I agree, especially if someone does this on accident. Could end up losing a lot of players who don't know any better because they are either new or didn't get the update. By that I mean by perma-ban of course.[R-DEV]Mats391 wrote:Quite a hard punishment for something that is not even 100% confirmed to be the cause of squad bugs.

We have the early squad auto-resign script provided by RAExtended, thank Rabbit for it!Curry-Chicken wrote:I suggest you use the script to block early squads.

We have resolved the issue with RAExtended, so far testing RAExtended recently to combat creation of early squads and so far it has been a moderately effective countermeasure.Spook wrote:Thats the point, they dont want to use it because it allegedly causes crashes.

While it may not be the 100% cause of squad bugs, I'm pretty sure we can agree that creation of early squads could be a large factor in causing squad bugs
Considering that FCV has been facing more squad bugs (which requires server restart to fix) than server crashes, this move was made as a deterrence and countermeasure against those who have repeatedly spammed the "Create Squad" button at the beginning of the round.
Lastly, permanent bans for squad bugs has been in FCV for many months now, it is just recently we've been having many more cases of Squad Bugs, that the rule becomes much more relevant than before.

Rest assured, we have taken all possible measures to communicate the stricter enforcement of this rule:
- Server loading description explicitly states the creation of early squads, if resulting in Squad Bug, will be punishable with a permanent ban
- A post regarding this change has been made on FCV Administration Forums for player information about this change
- Server messages, while in game, communicating the change of rules to every players intermittently
- Administrators have been informed to communicate this change of rules to players

Re: Free Candy Van
We of course won't be permanently banning someone if they just accidentally start an early squad once or twice... we'll assuredly warn them first. However, we have some players who have been reported to come onto our server and intentionally spam early squads in an attempt to incur a squad bug and kill seeding attempts. (I've seen this happen particularly frequently during livestreams I do)
If we have logs of players intentionally spamming early squads, then we consider them just as much a threat to our server as a DDoS attack and they will be removed. If we make a mistake in this, our forums are of course open for ban appeals. Surface is well known for his thoroughly researched, well documented, and fair ban appeal responses, so I hope no one feels uncomfortable listing any grievances they have there.

Anyways, shutting down the server tonight in light of recent information that someone has been attempting a security breach on our FTP and CP access points. Having our provider do a sweep to confirm any identities of the breach and once the security passwords and other information has been rotated we'll restart the VPS.

It's very sad to see that, again, people try to kill the fun and effort others have in their free time. I hope you guys keep going and sort this stuff out.
As others already noticed, I also love the way you present your ruleset.

In a way yes it will be. Right now there are only 3 or so populated servers left, easy targets for DDoSing with low amounts of required bandwidth to harass the entire community.camo_jnr_jnr wrote:Is squad somehow immune to ddosing? Can hardly blame ddosing on "pr," blame it on some dickhead with a grudge.
Why are you so eager to see the demise of this game?
With Squad I'm not only expecting a more stable dedicated server program (that is less susceptible to crashing during an attack) but also the huge influx of new player servers from Steam will make harassing the entire community in any meaningful way exceedingly expensive and ineffective.
I'm not eager to see the demise of this game, I want to see it continue... and since I'm probably the only realist around here, I can assuredly tell you that if we want to still be playing Project Reality two years from now we should start looking to the future.camo_jnr_jnr wrote:Why are you so eager to see the demise of this game?

Sounds to me like your a wee bit eager to see its demise. I get you are trying to market Squad but a little credit to PR from time to time would be nice aswell..Bluedrake42 wrote: I'm not eager to see the demise of this game, I want to see it continue... and since I'm probably the only realist around here, I can assuredly tell you that if we want to still be playing Project Reality two years from now we should start looking to the future.
Knowing people have put in countless hours of work into PR and still are, It's just sad to see you having the potential to reach new players for both of the games but basically just point out the flaws in PR while saying you can't wait for Squad..
Basically I think both games deserve some positive comments.
Oh, well just my two cents. I like your videos bluedrake and I think you have helped PR with a good amount of new players, I'm just hoping to see some more positive comments about PR and perhaps show more events and updates on new things (like you tried to do with the prta mappack, I was real sorry to see the livestram go down btw. I hope you can make some full round videos of those maps on the next event
