a question for PR 3d modeller guys

Post by Hokunin »

Just starting learning 3d modelling.

So I have win8.1 pro OS. I installed 3ds max9. But I got numerous bugs, that makes the software usage almost impossible. I have launched the software in XP and vista compatibility and gave admin rights. Also tried different distributives, 32bit then 64bit, all with the same results. Some error messages on startup and then some menu options unclickable(I can't click on "convert to" menu to edit spline), some menus text appear too tiny, weird screen artifacts etc

In what OS do you use 3dmax9 to model for PR? I can't imagine I will have to downgrade to WinXP...

It says Win Xp SP2 and Vista both 32 and 64bit. I have seen people using it on Win7 64bit, but not on WIn8/8.1

You might want to check requirements and check you install if its not corrupted install anything missing, and if it still wont work, you can get a VMWare player and install XP SP3 in it, then run max9 from there, or make a dual boot system with XP and 8.

Note that I do not use it, I just happen to know people that do.

Those service packs fix most of the bugs, however you'll still get a bug in window 8 where if you hide elements or do certain things with UVs, the viewport you have selected will freeze up and stay until the program is exited. Haven't found any fixes for this. Works fine in windows 7 though on my laptop :)

Haven't tried it on Win8 but on Win7 the biggest issue is that it disables Windows Aero which is a bit of a pain (especially since if you have the BF2Editor running at the time it gets disabled it will most likley crash it) but nothing really bad and something you can easily live with.

I haven't had any trouble running it on 7.
I used to get random crashes, but ever since I set my theme to basic they've stopped..

Glad to see you're getting into modelling :D
