Intel i7 4790K

Post by DesmoLocke »

Is anyone else running this processor? I picked one up on sale way back during Black Friday 2014 and I finally got a motherboard to put it in.

I've been in search of the best single thread processor to see how my FPS in PR changes. According to Passmark and other sources, this is the best CPU right now for single thread performance.

My other three processors include:
Intel i7 4930K (6 core)
Intel i7 920 (4 core)
Intel Xeon X5660 (6 core)

Anyways, I'm excited to finish this build!

Overall 4930K can chew and spit on 4790K but in single thread second one is better. Want PC just for doing single threads then its fine. In any other way 4930K all the way. No to get me wrong, 4790K is very good processor, it will run anything you throw at it, but 4930 is a tad better. 920 is ancient wont even talk about it, and X5660 is a server CPU not really meant for gaming. I dont own it, but I know people that do and I dont hear any complaints.

Also swaaag.

I doubt PR performance will increase, because that engine is old as hell.

Well, please let us know what the differences are, I am running a i5 3570k @4.5 ghz and still have FPS issues on most maps if I look in a certain direction. (fps issues = <45 fps)

I was wondering if an i7 was worth the extra $100 over an i5 and came to the conclusion it wasn't.

This was a factor, although both are OCed to 4.7, at 4:23 he's on COD and its a big difference. If I was rich or i7 was on sale sure but at 50% more its not enough FPS IMHO.

Be nice to hear if with the evil PR runs any better on it though!

Fast processors shorten loading time on PR considerably. I have PR installed on my HDD and load in at 3:30-3:45 on most maps, 5-15 seconds before the SSD people load in and brag about how SSD is so fast.

Also don't have the i7 4730k but I do have i7 4790, and they work like a dream for any needs that you have.

I run several different CAD, analytical, and script softwares with zero problems.

I didn't think CPU affected loading speed, RAM and SSD only I thought.

I only have 8Gb of RAM, pretty standard on win 7 desktops.
