APC/IFV/Tank bullet drop

Post by Careless »

My question is towards admins;

Is there a particular reason that there's no bullet dropon tanks and APC's?
My guess would be that it represents the modern "auto-aim" system modern tanks have.

As of now, it's just point and shoot.
I believe it would redefine armoured warfare in PR in a good way.

Discus.

Actually, anything that fires a projectile in BF2/PR have bullet drop. The projectiles are traveling at 1000~2000 m/s or around mach 3~5. The velocity of the projectile together with the limitation of the view distance, the bullet drop isn't noticeable in the game.

BMP-1 has drop.

Good thing about it is the stiametric range finder which allows you to zero in much easier.

Are you sure ? because travelling at mach 3 nearly above the ground level will desintegrate any objects because of the dense atmosphere. i read somewhere that most bullet travel at 800 m/s.

Rheinmetall 120 mm gun - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tank shells go 1500-1750 m/s, which is about mach 4-5.
Bullets fired from small arms usually travel more at numbers like 800 m/s, indeed.

Yes it is to represent modern tanks aiming systems, and we still can't shoot while on the move, and must compensate for moving targets, most modern tanks can do both, but i guess its hardcoded and is a good balance between gameplay and realism.

I believe there is bullet drop on all hand-held weapons, but only at 600 meters or greater. However, this may only apply for snipers, can anyone confirm?

All small firearms and COAX guns have bullet drop, the bullet drop of the sniper is less noticeable. IIRC, guns of AHE's and jets also have bullet drop.

I did notice that on Kashan in COOP the SP Abrams do have a small bullet drop.

I've tested other tanks and APCs on Test Airfield (with view distance of 2km?), non of them have bullet drop. The BMP3's HE-Frag just flies straight for 2km.

Why do we even continue with this thread i told you what was the case and this is clearly a suggestion, so you should put it in the appropriate forum and see if it gets approved. Rifles are zeroed at 300m and snipers at 600m.

No need for a hostile tone :) Chillout

He's clearly just opening a discussion, which is fine.
