Personally I think the question everyone should be making is "how can it be legal preventing gamers to play a game they bought for".

Dont question the wikipedia! Just because it reports different things on different languages does not make it unreliable source!

@Turista, its called copyright and licening law. Common mistake: You dont OWN the software you bought. You bought a license to use it! Big difference.

Unfortunately the videogame industry suffers from a one sided bullshit monopoly on this subject.

Such as this: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2015/05/eff-and-gamers-copyright-office-multiplayer-matters-course

Laws are rectified all the time. And this one needs a change. Just because it exists doesn't mean we should conform to it, regardless if you support this standalone feature or not.

Well here's the thing I've been talking about with everyone. Its not necessarily illegal to distribute copies of a game, its just illegal to distribute cracks and keygens... which we won't need to distribute.

The core game of BF2 is broken, you can't even log in to play the normal game anymore... so there's nothing to crack. I have a feeling that this area is grey enough that EA won't want anything to do with it. If they really cared... they would have stepped in when we hosted the community master server (since that allows people to play online with illegitimate copies, but they never issued a cease and desist.)

I would say that BF2 now counts as "Abandonware", Therefore you can't actually buy the game, nor does it function as it was originally intended.

Companies don't usually enforce abandoned software copyrights, meaning technically the game is now "fair game". This doesn't however mean that its not protected, EA could still issue a C&D.

I say keep doing what you're doing until such a day comes, and if it doesn't, then hey get started on reverse engineering that source code so we get more stuff (like fast ropes).

Yes, 1.3 will be standalone. You will not need BF2 anymore to install PR:BF2. You just grab prbf2_1.3.0.0_full.iso, install it, and you're good to go with nothing more to do.

Those on 1.2.1 should be able to patch to 1.3, in which case your BF2 files may be modified slightly, but it shouldn't cause any issues with other mods such as ReviveBF2 and FH2. That said though, if you do play other mods, you should probably grab the full install and install PR:BF2 to a separate directory to avoid any future possible conflict.

Those who just play PR:BF2 may as well grab the full installer as well, uninstall BF2 and PR:BF2 1.2, and start fresh with 1.3. Will save you a few GB's of hard drive space. But yeah, the patch should be there, providing it works (still gotta test it, there might not be one if it breaks things, we'll see)

Legalities aside, it's about the only thing we can do to keep PR:BF2 alive at this time. We're not as ready as EA/DICE were to let our game die and all our hard work go to waste. And like others have said in the thread, abandonware, etc, I don't think EA will care too much. Of course, if they actually do care, their legal team is more than welcome to send us a cease and desist order, and we'll simply revert back to the way things are at the moment. Naturally, that'd do wonders for their public image.

But anyway, it's not like we've ever followed the EULA. Ever since we included the BF2:SF content in PR (when was that, 0.6?), we've been breaking the EULA. Add to that the 100p servers, the new master server, things like PRMumble, BUIS, and a whole bunch of other stuff... The list of things we've "illegally" done is actually rather large. I'm still yet to ever receive a single message from EA or DICE, so, well, shrug...

So to those looking to buy BF2, and you can wait and don't want to play other mods, you should probably hold off until we release 1.3. To the inevitable question of when 1.3 will be released, when it's ready ;) .

Thank God

Also, I can't wait for PRISM. I'd been bugging a developer who worked alongside the BF2CC developer (MapAdmin, something like that) to expand into PR. He never got around to it.

I'm one happy camper.

(Is there support for custom maps in there as well?)

hey yeah.. so... this. ^ that and realistic deviation/ballistics/trackir support/functioning dashboards/etc

For those who have never seen this before, check out the videos below.

Tell me though... is it possible to port these features to PR:BF2? Or would we have to port PR:BF2 to 2142? In which case... probably impossible due to 2142's broken login system.

Or well... actually idk. Like for real can we talk about this? I still watch those videos a few times a year just to daydream.
