Why new sounds for machine guns?

Post by Barbrady »

Don't know which sounds all have been changed but what I heard I didn't like, for example the M2HB .50cal, imho sounds weak and muffled now but also heard from too far away. Old sounds were much clearer and had more power.

It's basically Anders' call at this point, and it doesn't seem like he likes to come on the forums and talk about it, so we'll have to just suck it up. People have been complaining since 1.0, but nothing has changed. .981 sounds were great, and 1.0 did bring improvements, but most were just out of line.

Edit:

I remember a well thought out thread being deleted that talked about the sounds not too long ago.

I think it was him, maybe it was moved, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Even in my recent posts it was gone. It needs to be addressed by devs, not just covered up.

True... 1.2 had it pretty good iirc. New sounds are far off realism, seems like COD more.

12.7mm BluFor M2 sounds like wet fart right now.

Only good thing about it(not sure if it's supposed to be realistic) is that it sounds different from Russian 12.7mm HMGs.

They removed the thread because the OP found sounds from different games, BF3 being one of them. Supposedly, devs are looking into replacements.

This one, maybe? Or perhaps I missed the one you are talking about.

I remember being the first one to post in it, was maybe only 2 months ago? That is a very good thread, however.

The new SVD rifle sound is really crackly. Anyone else getting this?

Especially the GB weapons sound very strange for me.
Have to agree with virus that the 1.2 sounds were much better.

Most complained sounds were reverted to v1.0 :) as everyone said they were a lot better. Can never satisfy everyone I suppose.

I like the distant sounds. When you hear a .50 or any other heavy weapon from a large distants it really is immersive. Don?t have a really good opinion on the sounds up close, most of them I quite like, you just need to get used to the sounds.

Who exactly were complaining about 1.2 sounds?

The only thing I don't like about the new sounds is that it has become more difficult to tell distant shots apart. On 1.2 you would immediately know f you were hearing enemy shots or friendly gunfire. Though I guess I might just have to adjust to the new sounds.

During earlier versions of 1.3, a lot of the gun sounds were changed. You can see this change through the changelog the community deciphered. The feedback from the team was similar to the complaint in OP for the new gun sound changes. The PR team tested 1st and 3rd person weapon sounds for every weapon that was changed ingame and reverted the ones which received overall negative feedback from the team to 1.2 values. I have personally analyzed the sounds of every gun in PR and have determined that what's in 1.3 currently is satisfactory for gun sounds (for the most part). You can only do so much to replicate gun sounds close to real life, and I do have extensive experience with real life gun sounds, they are not pretty or "clean".

It's a change that we'll get used to hopefully, and as always there are some that prefer the old ones all the time. On the bright side, some of the new sounds put in by anders are an improvement over 1.2 gun sounds, like the galil for instance.

To me the new distant gun sound effect was one of the first things I noticed and really liked compared to the old ones. Most of the effects at close range are good too, there's a couple that I liked better in the previous version but all that I've heard so far at the least OK – definitely a big improvement overall.

The negative tone in this thread probably doesn't accurately represent the community, those who are happy with the new sounds probably are less likely to express their feelings in the forums than those who are displeased.

Being in a AAV-P7 Battalion I can assure that the M2HB sounds are very spot on to RL

I would share a video but the sounds of a weapon picked up by a microphone ≠ real life sounds

And for some reason I think the in game FAMAS sounds almost exactly alike to a M4/M16A4

I'm not a sound engineer and honestly I really don't care about weapon sounds in game to real life as long as they are halfway reasonable and they are distinguishable from each other.
CrazyHotMilf: can you release PR 1.0 today cause its my birthday and i want to play it ? because its gonna be very nice and every thing

Just to give some positive feedback: The mid- and long-distance gun sounds are very immersive. Definitely seems like an improvement though I can't say anything about realism from personal experience. Also, the new SKS sound is fantastic! Combing with the lower recoil, that gun is now a pleasure to shoot.

Acecombatzer0, so the FAMAS sounds like the M4/M16? Do the current M4/M16 sounds sound like anything or are they just unrealistic from your experience?
