PR 1.3 Crashing

Post by WhatTheMac »

Hi,

After a 5-6 year absence, I couldn't resist downloading the new standalone, great to see how far PR has come!

Anyway, bit of a strange one. I have a macbook pro, and installed PR via Vmware (virtual machine), everything went smoothly and I was able to boot into the game and test that everything was working fine, which it was.

However, when I booted into windows and started up PR it would crash randomly after ~30 seconds. This does not happen on the virtual machine. I have tried re-installing, different resolutions, windowed mode and settings etc but had no luck.

Are there any installation settings I may need to clear out? I have a feeling the crashes are caused by a conflict created during the initial installation on Vmware.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

sorry a bit complicated for me virtual stuff.

Maybe repost using apple or Macbook in the title

I saw in the changelog that the game is locked to a machine, but I'm really clutching at straws here.

Thanks for the reply, could be possible... Just need to know how to regenerate the cd key then? I can post up the machine info for the virtual machine if needed.

I'll give this thread a bit longer before reposting, but thanks!

Bump

I have tried a variety of the fixes posted on these forum but no luck. There is no error message, no errors in logs that I can see. Seems it's based on some sort of timer, I have tried clearing out all PR related files/folders I could see as well. Sorry to be a pain, any ideas?

"booting into windows" you mean inside the VM, or through bootcamp?

I'll assume you mean bootcamp.

When exactly does it crash? Inside the PRLauncher? Can you hit play on the PRLauncher? Does it crash exactly when you hit play on the launcher? Do you get to the PR video screen after hitting Play?

Try installing Directx 9c, .NET 4.5.2 redistributable, and the C++ files, all linked at top of this page:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... guide.html

my guess is you're missing these components.

Hi Litoralis,

Thanks for the response, the crash occurs within bootcamp (but not when I use the VM).

I can start PR, but as soon as the game loads the crash happens within 30 seconds, I have left it at the menu without attempting to join a game and it still crashes within 30s. Just to be clear, there is no issue with the launcher, it only happens once I have loaded the main menu.

I have installed all the requirements, although it is hard to tell if I have actually installed DX9, I did download a dx 9c specific installer. :)

Thanks again!
