I have absolutely no idea where the OP is coming from. We have a gift horse here, and I don't see how one could complain about it.

With all of these newbies, we have opportunities. What you choose to do with those opportunities is entirely up to you, but please don't ruin it for the rest of us by chasing them off.

As a veteran player of 8+ years, I HATE all of the ridiculous server rules that I have been forced to acclimate to, but I have acquiesced because it is the only way I can play my favorite game. I can completely understand the confusion and disappointment of new players.

It's funny, but the server I play on actually saw an increase in teamwork, just because so many people left their locked clan squads and opened up to new players instead, while having excellent comms teamwide.

Yesterday, we ran 6 Newbie Inf Squads in one team and it worked out great. Of course you have to teach them and tell them every single thing, but it's still very rewarding, because every guy leaves the round with more new knowledge than if he had played coop for days.

Every one of us were noobs once. I learnt PR by playing it, squadleaders taught me the basics.

don't hate! If you want hardcore games, you could join a community (e.g PRTA) and then join an unit. Then just wait for 50v50 clan matches :b

No point moaning, it is what it is.......new game, new people.

Having played PR in the past and left for ages, I DL'd 1.3 and joined my old clan server.

Tried to lead a squad...not easy when everyone runs off in different directions.
Then played as medic and spent the entire round reviving.....mainly those who were TK'd or deliberately run over by team mates......never even saw the enemy...didn't get time.
Most of the new players I encountered wanted to learn.

Still.....had a blast replaying the old maps.....the happy memories.

It will get better, the ones who are just trying it out will leave, those with short attention spans will leave and those player who are truly interested in PR will stick around.

Happy days

I have been playing Project Reality back and forth since '07, but still don't have the balls to lead a squad.

I think there is actually more teamwork since 1.3. The new player base is great only bad thing is now trying to get on a server at peak hours is proving hard. Also is it just me or are there more server crashes since 1.3? On PRTA anyway....

I guess I was just angry guys, I did go on today and had a few good matches, it's mostly the people who don't talk and don't have mics that ruin this game for me, it really agrivates me when I'm trying my best to lead a squad and people aren't listening and when I kick them they just join back forcing me to lock the squad. It's just like a lot of new people are treating the game like it's nothing special, when this is the only game I can come on and play tacticaly and in a professional mannor and enjoy myself.
Like I said no offense to anyone, I'm not slagging anyone off, I was just mad and as to the server administrator yeah, I wasn't spamming I only talked about it twice but I posted the message before you said stop on my end, apology accepted, I just had a bad PR day what I've not had before. Love your videos too bluedrake, I watch them all the time.

Thanks for being understanding guys, just a bit cheesed off

Pardon my romance language, but I'm fucking elated.

Especially in the first few weeks of a major update, I measure my success and enjoyment not by how well I do, but by the number of players (newcomer or otherwise) who interact with me and come out of the experience saying "This game is awesome!" Even in rounds where our opponents were victorious.

So far I've been pretty successfull. :P

It'd be cool if a person in a community could do a 101 to Project Reality like this battlefield video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcZ3wXF3r14

Have that linked to in every server. It doesn't matter who made it, just that it's there. I know a few of you server owners and clan have beef with each other, but that has to be put aside at this point because you will literately fuck up the community and push everyone away from each other.

The other tutorials linked are too long and boring to watch. If someone could make a qucik 10 minute video in the same passive-aggressive style as the battlefield video, you are money.

The new players not having mics is a legitimate issue. I'm new and I'm already frustrated by those without mics. It's like they didn't even try to learn about PR before hopping on.

2nd time I've played since the release and the will shown by most newbies to stick to the squad, be humble and listen to the SL is very impressive. Some of them who only had the 1.3 experience got the hang of the game pretty well. It certainly helps that the server I play is well administrated too. I can't wait to play again this weekend and show the ropes. It's been a blast and I hope a lot of these guys will stay in the long term.

I am EXCITED that PR has new life breathed into it, I was worried about it when BF2 unexpectedly took a turn for the worse with Gamespy/EA stopping support for it.

Thank you to all the DEVS for this awesome update!

Maybe a suggestion would be to have a PR community based COOP and Deployment Training servers for about a month? Maybe have some sponsored training sessions? I remember when PR was new, there used to be lots of Training servers and then COOP got more serious when PR was getting more popular.

But having new players in PR is awesome because I remember when I was a new player. This is an opportunity for clans to teach new players the ropes and maybe get some fresh meat into their community. A Win-Win for everyone and PR. :)

It saddens me to have these kinds of posts, are they are pretty counter intuitive. So you dont like something that makes the game better?

Players are what makes the game, we need them as much as they need us. So we just need to be patient and teach the ropes. I'm loving all the servers and players so far :)

Speaking from personal experience as a relatively green player, it's even more discouraging having someone telling you that you're trash when you're trying to learn the game. I typically only play rifleman and ask the SL where I'm needed. I change kits when I'm asked to, and I always let the SL know that I'm still learning when I'm tossed into a situation/kit that I'm not very familiar with.

Thankfully, most of the time I've been in pretty cool squads with some really patient people and I've had a good experience and learned a lot. I'm not in the position you're describing per-say, as I don't generally ever touch squad leader, but it's pretty discouraging to see someone who sounds like they -don't- want new players in the game and only want to play with "pros" seemingly without a desire to have a little patience for newer players. That's how games get stagnant.

Unfortunately you seem to be the minority based on the games I've played and the people I've played with. Not enough new players have that mentality, and for whatever reason they don't take instruction well

I started playing the day 1.3 came out. For the couple first games I was really lost (even after reading the damn manual 2,5 times) but due to the better half of the community I pretty quickly learned the basics. (Thanks! Btw) just answer our questions, if we're truly intrested in playing the game we've read the manual we just forgot/missed the part we're asking 'bout. The ones who aren't will be gone soon.

ElectricCowBoy wrote:for example joining one squad and having to spend the whole match defending a position without building anything due to the fact that the squad leader didn't touch the officers kit or speak, after me and other people asking multiple times
^^ In most of the squads I join the squadleader doesn't actually wan't to be the leader an is the SL just because earlier he kept rejoining the squad just to see that someone did the same and he is the SL again. So that just telling them that I can be the SL if noone else wants to makes 'em happy. Take the lead and teach them because in the end they can only be as good as we/you (mostly you vets tho') make them. And the people who won't communicate and have 0 intentions to do so will most likely play PR for a month tops and in that time you should have taught all the noobies the basics so everything is back to normal again just a lil' easier :)

Sorry for any typos, i wrote this on my phone

The three times I've been SL since 1.3 came out went surprisingly well, with the new players eager to learn and cooperate.

I found that doing the following helps:

1. Do mic check (name squad "mic only inf" or something similar), assign kits, and have a clear plan to show ppl you know what you're doing
2. Be welcoming, ask who's new, and encourage them to ask questions
3. Never blame or kick anyone for incompetence or lack or knowledge as long as they're following orders and communicating (if you're squad is really unskilled, just suck it up and do easy stuff like FOB building or defense)
4. Be firm about enforcing squad rules (no mic, lonewolfing, or ignoring orders with no good reason = kick)
5. Call people by name if you need them to do something. Also, talk calmly and clearly. Shouting or saying too much will usually make ppl less cooperative

If you guys have any tips, share em.

I am sad about every new version, except for entirely different reasons.
