Getting error 'you have failed to connect' when joining multiplayer

I had the mod before the standalone and received the same message when trying to join a multiplayer game. I uninstalled BF2 and all files related to project reality and installed the latest version (1.3) yet it still gives me the message, 'you have failed to connect please check your internet connection(s) and try again' every single time I try and play multiplayer. Therefor I have to play the co-op with bots instead, Which is obviously not the same. I am connected to the internet.

Have you tried joining servers not near full or empty multiplayer servers for several attempts? I think it might be your internet.
