Another Community Observation - Influx of New Players

Post by RAWSwampFox »

Good Morning,

Come on guys!!! We have a ton of new players, please welcome them and show some dadblame customer service. Some of the behavior that I seen over the weekend leads me to believe that it will drive away the new players in droves. Live with the adjustment period and welcome the new players. If we do not do this, we will begin seeing total player numbers go back down below 500 within the next month. << my prediction

This reminds me of when v1.0 came out with concerns of the new people joining, the community only to be shunned by the vets. The cycle seems to be repeating itself.

hmm, this is contrary to what i have been observing, i see ALOT of old players taking responsibility, creating newbie squad, teaching blueberries even though they are not in squad.

ofc, i have also experienced some comments about the influx of players that is very unnecesary and unwanted, but i would say that is not even relevant to the overall picture. It could also be Server related, im not going to mention any servers, but there is a trend of some regional servers not giving 2 shits about communication or teamwork.

i would suggest switching around and try some different servers until you find one that caters to your needs :)

Yeah well, some (very few though) of the "elitist servers" and their players are being smart-asses to new players, but it's so good to have fresh blood amongst ourselves. It's so awesome when i enter a server and don't see the usual players flying CAS or driving tanks. Better for the game.

I'm cool playing with rookies (we've all been there at some point) but the excessive teamkilling have got to stop!

I didnt notice any "elitist" servers. So far I have only seen very positive responds towards newbs. Merk, NEW, 3dac and other clans doing #NewbHelp Squads, everybody seems to help out as much as they can. Very nice to see.

Problem is that we dont have the infrastructure to handle the playernumbers. All the left-over players join unadmined servers and end up in complete chaos. No one expected that many players.

Dont get me wrong i'm talking about the server population here, and i have seen that only a small % of the players act like this, and generally PR 1.3 is great.

I have loved playing with the newer crowds so far. I have answered a SHIT ton of questions. I'm just glad they're asking. :)

It is amazing to see so many new players and I try to help as many of them as I can. But my appeal to all new players is PLEASE PLEASE READ THE MANUAL. 98% of the questions being asked in global chat can be answered in the manual. This will help save a lot of time to everyone as well as improve everyone's gameplay.

I have an observation/suggestion. We have a shortage of knowledgeable squad leaders, but at the same time, I see a lot of vets who are still grouping with each other. So we may have one squad that knows what they're doing while everyone else is pretty much useless. It'd be better, in my opinion, to have those vets who know how to work with each other, leading squads and working with each other in that capacity. We'd see some better games.

I just posted this in another thread, but I think it's relevant here. The new guys are the future, but they aren't reading this forum, and they probably aren't reading the manual, just like so many people that have been playing this mod for years.

Here is my original post.

I think part of the problem is that mumble is only functional for some part of the time. I have experienced issues with members of my own party, as well as those in chat.

Another issue is that server rules vary so much from one server to the next that only veteran players really understand the idiosyncrasies, if even then, and that would certainly lead to plenty of confusion, frustration, and anger in the long run.

Add to it that this game has a pretty steep learning curve, and you're in for quite a few misunderstandings.

Personally, I think that the server admins should exercise a ton of restraint in enforcing server rules.

Veterans should not assume that new players have been playing for several years and iterations of the mod.

The various communities should unite in one central set of server rules to adhere to, without all of the minutiae that seems to plague every server. Every single round, I hear people ask, "When can we form squads?", "What kind of assets do we have to claim?", "What is the rule on this?". If veterans are asking this every round, what do you think new guys are thinking?

I love the attention that 1.3 has got, and I think it has a lot to do with the attention that Squad is getting, but I hope and pray that the community is smart enough to capitalize on it, rather than squander it.

Now that we have lots of new players we should definitely not stack sides with clans, we were on the bigd sever the other day and this was happening so we decided to balance it out and switch. Nothing kills a server faster than constantly getting raped.

Exactly. We should think about future and motivate new players to learn game. Its funny when somebody say somtehink like. Dont learn me I play PR many years. One vet to other vet. really funny. And other true new players in squad are missed. For next weeks/month we should focus on new players. Have a patient. When I remember on my begining i dint come to realitymod forum, after one year playing i came. Its learning curve so patient patient even if you are teamkilled from missthrow granade from your own squad :)
And yeah. We dont have much squad leaders. But this problem is funny. Because in real world its same. We have so much egoistick managers but so less of good ones :D and they dont learn how to become better :)

I would like to thank the members of my ENG MIC INF squad from a couple of days ago.

I forgot what roles you filled, but you all listened and followed orders and directions very well. I think 2 or 3 of you were fairly new to PR which didn't stop us from being the top squad! The 40 person assault on the air tower on Saaremaa (sp?) was amazing! Great use of the grappling hook JekisCool! And a big thanks to sciddles and Leaded for being the medics. I hope to run into you guys again soon!

It's a shame a lot of them don't seem to listen. Was just in a game and a single squad wasted about 4 logistics trucks from using them as transport in Insurgency. Watched them multiple times just drive the logi truck straight to the cache, respawn and grab the other. Told them the first time and unfortunately they refused to listen. Tbh i think enforcing the mic rule might be necessary, it seems the new guys with the mics are the most willing to learn while the others refuse to listen and just want to do their own thing even if it ruins the game for everyone else.
