T-90 HMG can only aim forward

Post by ComradeHX »

Seems like T-90 HMG can only aim forward 120 degrees or so.

Is that working as intended?

I was actually asking this as well. I have no idea if it is limited like that in real life. Will try to find out. If you have any sources on this, let me know :)

I'm pretty sure it goes 360 degrees IRL, the non-remotecontrolled mount seemed to be the standard AAMG mount for almost all Russian tanks.

Also, even if it was actually limited in traverse in any way, it didn't make sense that the angle is fixed to front of hull instead of turret.

Might not go actually 360 degrees. T-72 HMG "march lock" position is backwards, T-80/90 the march lock is forwards. By march lock I mean how the machine gun is positioned during motor marches. Almost every picture of T-80/90 shows that the MG is faced front. It might imply that the MG does not make 360 degree turn. Of course, I might be wrong.

Not sure about the angle there. Definitely less than 180 degree angle. It is meant to be used for anti air purposes, not for destroying infantry. So it aims vertical not horizontal

Straight from one of our military advisors:

Elevation: +20?
Depression: -4?
Left rotation limit: 45?
Right rotation limit: 60?

If you have a source that says otherwise, feel free to post it. :)

Only 20 degrees elevation?

I know it's T-80 but that is basically T-90 are T-80M. The angle looks greater than 20 to me, more like 65-70 degrees.

What's with the question marks?
There is no way elevation is only 20~ for supposedly AA MG.

If you have a source that says it only aims to front of hull, feel free to post it.
Because that's what it's unrealistically doing in v1.3.

Because right now it points to front of hull only, not turret.

That means turret can be pointed to the back and HMG is still pointed in the frontal arc.
even the actual T-90 has much greater angle than 20 degrees.

i don't know who is dev's army source but lol

The question marks come from using the degree symbol that the forum cant display. That it is only able to view to the front of the hull is not intended, but interesting bug.

After some quick googling, it appears that -4 to +20 degrees may refer to the range in which the stabilization is active and the weapon can be fired remotely. Aiming the weapon higher (possibly up to +70) seems to require getting out and aiming manually. I'll see if I can get this clarified and increase it if this is the case. :)

The left/right rotation limits are supposed to be in relation to the turret. That is indeed not intended.
