Unable to get past the 1301 problem.

Last week I downloaded Project Reality Standalone. I haven't had a chance to play it, since everytime I press "Play" and pick my profile, I always get the "Verification error 1301: Unable to contact verification server"
I've been reading the sticky thread about this issue. I've tried all the suggested fixes, and none works for me. It's kind of frustrating, but instead of giving up I came here to make a thread and see if I can find a way.
