internet lag spikes in regular intervals, making it impossible to play PR

Post by uzipaz »

Hey guys,
I have been playing PR for a good while now with fairly good ping and a stable internet connection. I am using Win7 64bit with 6GB of memory.

But, just within few days ago, whenever I try to play PR:BF2, I get regular lag spikes which occur in 5-10 sec of intervals. My ping shoots to 1500-2000ms for about 1-2 seconds and the 'There is a problem with your connection' message is displayed. After this, the ping returns to normal amount and the game continues until the next spike.

These are my system specs:

I have also attached a screenshot trying to demonstrate the problem. I have searched about the problem on the webs with no luck. I've tried the following

1. Reset the router, reset the internet connection
2. Disabled the Bluetooth in my laptop
3. Made sure there is no heavy use of the internet connection
4. Tried disabling the Network Throttling feature with Multimedia Class Scheduler, courtesy of this guide here
5. Made sure there are no other background programs/processes leaching the internet

to no success. I am relying on you gentlemen to give me any tips to resolve this issue.

Thanks.

packet inspection?

Run some speedtests , this is a networking or ISP issue, not something we can easily help you with. Try to run with a wired connection first to at least eliminate some new source of WiFi interference causing this.

I found the fix, the problem began occuring just a few days ago and I just checked other laptops with the same WiFi connection not having the delay. So, I inferred that its not my WiFi/ISP or any interference. Maybe some software in my laptop is interfering.

Then, I remembered that I installed Viber (the phone calling app) for desktop on my laptop. I tried terminating the application on the desktop and now the delays are gone. Everything is back to normal. That was weird, I don't know how Viber would cause problem like this while running in the background but it did.

Thanks for your input guys.
