No sniping?
So, i'm new to this game and the thing that really made me play this game was the sniping mechanics of this game, i use to play only sniper back in bf2 and seeing some youtube videos of snipers in this game just made me install it. The one thing i don't get is why every server i get into, there is no sniper kit, not even a single map i have been to, can someone explain this to me?
Take it easy
i'm newb

Re: No sniping????
Sniper kits are available in limited numbers; usually a team of 50 players is only allowed one or two kits at any given time. You need to be in a squad with at least a few other people in it, and request a sniper kit from a supply crate. If there is already a maximum number of snipers deployed on your team (1 or 2), the supply crate won't drop you a new kit. This helps keep the number of snipers on the battlefield realistic, so yes, the kits are scarce.
It's worth pointing out that snipers are typically unpopular amongst PR players--people who snag sniper kits (particularly without asking their squad leader) are assumed to be lone-wolf leet wannabees. If you play as a sniper unit, you're job is to observe and relay relevant enemy positions and movements, and take out targets of opportunity without getting discovered. Most PR snipers don't do this well. Most PR snipers run off without support, find an obvious hill and shoot without discretion, get tunnel vision and are killed by someone sneaking up on them. Sometimes it's useful to have a sniper act as a squad DM to provide accurate cover fire for the maneuver element.

plz just dont
its a TEAM game. and most of the PR community is very serious about that...

Ty for info guys, could i ask another thing, i was playing a little bit with the m4a1 and i could clearly see an enemy in prone position. I was shooting at him one shot at a time, letting the recoil reset and he would not die. He wasn't too far away so i don't think there was any bullet drop, it just seems that i keep shooting at enemies and they don't fall down, help?

Hello spoderman!
Estou a ver que ?s portugu?s! Bem vindo ao project reality!
Hey dude, don't listen to the guys saying sniper kit is bad okay? That's ****! Real military uses snipers, and the damn kit is the game for a reason! As long as you use it right, you work as a team, and you use it for your team's benefit you can be a great sniper in project reality!
About the other thing, ehe weapon deviation and recoil is hard to master in PR, you need to practice a bit! After a while you'll get the hang of it! There's a bit of a learning curve.
I'm trying to create a clan/group with the objective of helping new players, you can read about it here: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f75-pr ... ost2081427
Maybe we can get together sometime ingame and I can help you out getting into PR! Send me a PM if you're interested! =)
Cheers, hope to see you on the battlefield!

Re: No sniping????
Deviation, you need to let your aim settle for ~3 seconds before you fire at medium/long range. Your aim might look steady and right on target but in reality the shot will be completely off unless you wait for a bit.Spoderman wrote:Ty for info guys, could i ask another thing, i was playing a little bit with the m4a1 and i could clearly see an enemy in prone position. Since the BF2 engine can't do weapon sway, deviation is the only way PR can simulate prolonged firefights and not have players do full on 360 twitch shots like Call of Duty.
So if you run in to an enemy who's already crouched and aiming at a longer distance, he'll kill you 80% of the time no matter how good your aim is.

the point is, which you already mentioned yourself, that you have to use it right.
unfortunately the right way of using that kit is about 95% observing/providing intel and 5% shooting. and thats not how 99% of fps players expect it to be.
for example thats the reason why i said dont use it especially when you are a new player.
you need experience on the maps to know where are good positions when and where to relocate. not every high building or hill is automatically a good position.
also you need experience in reading a situation, reading enemy movements. also to make it work as supposed you have to find a squadleader and a spotter to join you.
and yes there are some times where a sniper COULD be useful even in a normal squad, but in 95 times out of 100 its not or marksman is a better kit choice at that time.
and as you said: " Real military uses snipers"
but they dont hand a sniper to a new recruit and say "here you go, just try to be useful and use it right", do they?
its an extremely limited kit, for a good reason.
so think twice before you call someone out for writing "****"

Wow, thanks a lot for the info guys, i didn't know project reality was had so much.....reality?
I know we can't really compare both games, but i actually used to play passively as a sniper, pretty much scouting enemy flags. Maybe i should start learning the basics and the mechanics of the game and maybe then i try sniper (really guys i love sniping)

well of course nowadays, after the 1.3 standalone release, you will meet many new players making your experience not so "reality-ish" as you would expect after reading stuff like that on the forum.Spoderman wrote:Wow, thanks a lot for the info guys, i didn't know project reality was had so much.....reality?

there are a lot of bad examples outthere using the sniper kit like a "i just do my own thing" tool. and not every new player is willing to learn in an appropriate way like you. so thumbs up for you, if you really do it like you said.
and if you love sniping, i promise you your time will come, and you will have lots of fun. just give yourself time and learn the game first. and believe me even if you pass on sniping for now, you will still have a ton of fun learning this amazing game. and if you are comfortable with long range combat and all that stuff, maybe start trying the marksman kit, as every squad is allowed to have 1 . ask your squadleader first though.

Ah mate, you took my comment wrong, I didn't even read what you said! I wasn't talking about you, I was talking about the common stereotype from people ingame who go nuts the second they see someone grab the sniper kit.gwa1hir wrote:i think you didnt listen. nobody said here that a sniper kit was bad.

I was going to write a reply talking about everything you need to know to be a good sniper in PR, but I accidentally closed the tab and I didn't want to write it all over. I'm certainly not trying to encourage a new player to use the sniper kit without knowing how, I'm just trying to not discourage him from learning the role of a sniper. Which is why I offered him my help.
Anyways, just a misunderstanding I suppose!
Cheers, hope to see you on the battlefield

Re: No sniping????
This game isn't like COD or Battlefield 4, ect. Honestly, sniping is hard and should only be used in training server until you got the neck nailed down.
Do not join a squad and take a sniper kit, it could easily get you kicked; also people will dislike you for that situation.
Don't create a squad and have a sniper kit without communicating. If you do so, you might be kicked.
Please do not use a sniper kit unless you mastered it in Coop. Honestly, if you think this game is like BF2 or some other FPS... it's really not the game for you. It's a Tactical FPS rather than a normal intense action FPS.
Just some heads up buddy, good luck out there!

Re: No sniping????
I hope you got a chance to thoroughly try the game out, and aren't being discouraged by the replies to your post before you even have a few rounds under your belt; we are just trying to make sure your expectations for this game are in the right place--this game is definitely for a more niche audience, it's for hardcore tactical players, people who can rattle off weapon and vehicle designations by heart, who read books about military history and are acquainted with the rules, rhythms, and best practices of the battlefield. It simply takes time to develop these things, so if you are a person that fits the above description, you will grow to LOVE this game.Spoderman wrote:Unnistalling....
I know the graphics/engine are essentially the same, but the PR experience shares almost no common ground with the original BF2 experience, we want to be sure you grasp that. I think the best plan of action for you is to link up with the Portuguese-speaking StevePl4y5 for some training.
Oh, and read the manual. The whole thing. That is step #1 on the road to having fun in PR.

Re: No sniping????
I will give you a brief example of an excellent sniper.
Finding a great vantage point and communicating with a mortar squad to direct fire and call in battle damage assessment. (Or airstrikes!)
The gun is only used for targets of opportunity and NOT if it will give your position away.
Once they find you, they will kill you, and then you will lose your usefulness as a sniper, and your gun!!!
Working with a spotter will allow you much more freedom of movement, capabilities, and someone to watch your back when you've got tunnel vision through your scope.
It's a fine kit, but not super great in an infantry squad that is going room to room, moving fast, and engaging a lot of enemy. A marksman kit is great in this situation to provide cover, but now your squad is one man down, and they have to wait for the marksman to catch up if they are moving really fast!

Well, PR don't need snipers, it needs infantry men. Like sniping, have fun in CoD and BF.
I kick people that take sniper kit with out permission, zero tolerance to them. Because I need a guy with rifle and ready to take CQB action instead sitting on crane 600 meters away from me.

Re: No sniping????
I just played a few games and i don't feel like trying it anymore, people are constantly locking the squads, once i managed to join a squad and told them to sort of "guide me" because i am new. They just told me to follow them (i did) and they were just sitting in a corner doing nothing telling jokes, hearing music, i dunno. I always feel lost in the game, never know what should i be doing, where should i be heading..... etc etc etc.

Seriously pal, if you have no idea what the game is about or how the mechanics work, how are you ever gonna enjoy it?
/sighs
it was to be expected from someone who ''loves'' sniping.
Try another server (NEW Era for example) and join a infantry squad there. If a squad is locked you can always type in chat and ask for them to unlock so you can join.
