Depends on what you're doing. Are you exporting models from 3ds max 9 to the bf2 editor? Importing other pre-exported bf2 files to the editor?
Best place to take a look is the tutorial section under the community modding section. Give an example of what you're wanting to do and it will help us help you

Re: [HELP] HOW TO USE BF2 OBJECT EDITOR??
Firstly, copy mods/bf2 and make a copy, like bf2_edit or anything else. Then go inside the folder, select both objects_server.zip and objects_client.zip and extract that into one folder. You want to rename that folder Objects.
Install the BF2Editor by running it with Windows XP SP2/3 compatability (Right-Click, Properties, Compatability, Run in 'Windows XP SP2 mode', OK). Run BF2Editor, and then select bf2_edit in 'Select mod to load' and now you will be able to now edit vehicles, weapons, effects, etc.
When making changes, make a backup of the file you are modifying before use. Keep in mind that the 'Undo' function is broken, and when you want to save, you must select the boxes, and it's selected when it has a green colour.
Save All is also buggy too.
