Being a squad leader in Project Reality has made me a better person

I have several years of PR experience, but not in the last five years or so. I look forward to feeling ready to SL again when the need arises. My eyes are not great, nor my reactions, so its winning through outthinking the enemy and coordinating the teamwork that I want.

I hadn't thought of this as a confidence booster in general. Now I have even one more reason why its a good idea to waste my time on PR.

This was exactly what I mean with the being good with women part.

Buying a mic, learning to use ancient PRMumble and talking to people got over my anxiety of interacting with completely foreign people who might be hostile to me.
Nowadays I can generally get on with anyone anywhere and people feel close to me quite fast, thus, people skills which make most women I show any interest towards start getting obsessed with me basically.

It hasn't helped me in making friends because men are scared of confident, leader types and it hurts their ego (lol) but PR has definitely helped me get over the anxiety of interacting with people.

I'm 100% sure that, if you become a good SL who all his squaddies love ie: me, not some controlling freak yelling at everyone, then you do inherit very good values from it. If you can become like near best friends with some random kids on PR in under a match's time, you can probably make it with all people.

In addition to that, you feel worthy enough to take on leading roles, and people can see it. These days, I must supervise or directly dictate most if not all things I take part in and it's gained me basically charisma which allows me to rise to a high position anywhere.

Getting rejected by your squad has always hurt more than getting rejected by women or people you're trying to befriend LMAO.

This last month or two has made me strongly gravitate toward the latter part of your statement.

Listening to the Mumble chatter before and after the battles also multiplies that effect, which is why I have to use my mute key a lot.

No joke. I don't think there has been one round where I haven't heard a sexual comment to anyone. Some of the things I have heard... I literally never heard of before. (Where I work... I know what every slang stands for. And I hear a ton of ****.) Sometimes I think that I am working... not playing PR lol.

After you win a round it's worse lol. When you lose a round it's not AS BAD.

All of my co-workers are serious Japanese people so I actually enjoy all of the idiocy in between rounds. As weird as it sounds, it's like a breath of fresh air from everyday life.

You probably sound like a pushover, then.

Talk from your gut, don't hesitate when giving orders, don't cancel orders unless they're terrible, do everything with confidence and if your squad runs around aimlessly, swear at them and call them fucking idiots .

I'm quite often mean at my squaddies if they do dumb ****, and I reward them if they're doing good, or at least what I want. You probably subconsciously reward dumb **** in fear of your squad not liking you. Fuck your squad, they just need to do what you want them to do.

There's a fine line between being a tryhard SL who rages at everyone and an SL who everyone listens to and obeys.

Command your subordinates, don't suggest or ask them.

It's only normal that a game where so much mandatory socialization is involved will change most of players in time. Human psychology.

And it also happened to me in some ways. Mostly about how to sound confident when you're really not confident in that given situation at all (I started to SL because of the same reason as the OP). But, yah, It has changed the way I when I'm with more than 1 person. If we (the people with whom I am), for example, encounter some kind of problem I've noticed that my first thoughts are "how to solve it?" and next - "how to solve it collectively?". And also in other ways.

Nice idea for a forum topic, OP. As an amateur anthropologist I would like to know more about how PR has influenced your life in a positive (or maybe in a negative?) way.

PR helped me be more of a ****.

SLing in PR means that you will run into the occasional mentally handicapped person or idiot.

You cannot do anything about the mentally handicapped and idiots can't be cured, but you must learn to deal with them.

I give everyone a few chances, but if I have someone in my squad with no mic, or someone who keeps disobeying orders when I exclipitly state that the squad must obey my orders due to the nature of the situation, I use the kick button liberally.

Mentally handicapped people throw a tantrum when you kick them, and idiots come into your squad and complain, teamkill etc. and overall the action of kicking them, and ofc. telling them why, pisses them off.

Too bad.

In a round where I get unlucky, I need to easily kick the whole squad's worth of people because they don't belong in my squad. No one will have fun if they play in my squad, and I have found that over time the better players migrate to my squad and the not so good players go to squads where they are more effective. So we all win.

One person's short term benefit and emotions is not more important than the safety and effectiveness of all people involved.

The lesson is that if you have a toxic family member, get rid of them as soon as possible.
If your girlfriend begs you for things to buy and you can't, don't want to and it's not smart, don't buy them.
If your girlfriend or your friends in general act abusive towards you, don't reward them for it and punish them, usually via dumping your gf or friends.

It seems a bit *******-ish but you must kick toxic people (and squadmates) away from your life and not feel any quilt. If someone in your squads wants to play sniper and not communicate, you shouldn't allow him, a good player is very upset that the squad that's doing very well is full and has a sniper in it who is doing badly.

Whenever possible, I try to be Squad 4 ~ 9 because mic-less and/or useless players always try to join Squad 1 ~ 3 first.

Being the leader of Squad 1 is not fun.

Squad 6, 7 and 9 particularly work well for me.

I also name my squad something silly, it attracts all the useless trash at first then brings in all the good players, quicker than "ENG INF" does.

Kozelsk as Russians, "FUKTUNNELS" seemed to attract only idiots that round .

On most Fallujah rounds, "LAPD" or "COMPTON INF" works quite well.

French squads must be named "BAQUETTEINF" or "HON HON HON" for any success.

Seriously, don't be insulting to your squadmates. If someone isn't listening, kick them, but yelling or swearing at them can really ruin the mood for other people. Controlling your squad without being mean is a skill you should acquire because people will have a better time that way. No one wants to listen to the squad leader telling people they're "fucking idiots" and squad leaders who resort to this usually aren't very good to being with.

Also, you have to change your strategies when leading people who aren't very skilled. Trying to take a T-building with a squad of newbies will get your *** handed to you. But defending a T-building yourself or supporting the team from a well-positioned super FOB will let you rack up the kills. That's my experience.

I dunno, it's worked okay for me to now, being a bit harsh on people to get them moving.

Although I never directly insult people unless in a very obviously satiric manner. Not once have I called someone a "Fucking idiot" except those few times when for some reason, someone felt like literally spraying down half of my squad with friendly fire.
