Logi help for a noob SL
Hello, my name is PolishKruk and I'm a noob. I've also been thrown into the role of SL fairly quickly too. It's lots of fun and I'm trying so thank you all for your patience and advice.
My question is mainly about maps with an assault carrier spawn. Is there a guide/resource that will identify what assets spawn on the mainland and when? On a normal map it's easy to spawn in main base and grab a transport and a logi if needed but where do these things spawn from on the island and offshore maps? I feel bad constantly calling I'm the helos for crates. Am I wrong? Will they tell me if they can't help? Or should I utilize the air mobile assets if no other squad is?
Also, please don't tell at me for being an SL with less than ten hours of xp. I was promoted into the role in an insurgency match where we finished top squad of our team somehow. (map was full of morons and tkers). After the next match started (AAS) my entire old squad had waited for me to make one before they all joined. I named it noob squad and we had a blast being stuck in the shit. Please don't hate on me.
Thanks!

Sounds like you're more of a "newb" rather than a "noob". A newbie is just someone new to the game and inexperienced. A noob is a boob or asshat that is inexperienced and not trying to learn the game.
Yes. On maps with an assault carrier, there are supply depots on land that repair/rearm APCs and such. Often a logistics truck and other assets spawn there as well after some time or after the first flag is captured. It is map specific.
To figure out if there is a spawn delay on vehicles, open your "Caps Lock" map.
Click on the title bar at the top.

I hope that helps.

Further, if you're not sure what vehicle spawn where you can ask your squad mates, or failing that, the commander or other squad leaders. Someone should know the map well enough to tell you.
Lastly, you could have a squad member (like a rifleman) spawn in and tell you what's there. Then either all spawn in on the same place or spawn elsewhere and organise transport for your one guy.
Well done for taking up the role of SL it's a little work but very rewarding and your squad members are bound to appreciate it
Cheers, Murkey.

Never, ever, feel bad for calling the transport squad for supply crates. Crates are 50% of the job you sign up for when flying transport helicopters.PolishKruk wrote: I feel bad constantly calling I'm the helos for crates. Am I wrong? Will they tell me if they can't help? Sometimes at the beginning of the match they will be a bit too busy to bring you crates, but most of the match, they'll just be sitting on the helipad waiting for requests.

Yeah! Exactly! I've flown trans a lot, and trust me, squad leaders who constantly ask for crates are like lords and saviors for trans pilots! xDSteeps wrote:Never, ever, feel bad for calling the transport squad for supply crates. Don't do squad-leading on those maps if you don't know things like that.

Thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate the feedback. FYI the map I was on was Saaremaa.
I know I did some things wrong but looking back I already have recognized several areas where I can improve. Hope to see you on the battlefield.

That is an unhelpful thing to say. PR is suffering a severe lack of squad leaders and PolishKruk here seems to be doing his best to learn as quickly as he can, give the guy a break.Jutsch wrote:Don't do squad-leading on those maps if you don't know things like that.
Anyway Kruk, keep up the good work and welcome to PR.
Powodzenia!

Pilots love getting requests! It gives them something to do. They only hate you if you order crates in an area that isn't safe for helicopters. A pilot should tell you if he can come or not, but it's your responsibility to make sure the area is safe or at least notify him of the conditions and see if he is willing to risk it.PolishKruk wrote:I feel bad constantly calling I'm the helos for crates. If you're leading a bunch of insurgents together in a squad, you're already a top leader in my book. Finding an insurgent squad that still moves together like a BLUFOR squad is not that common.PolishKruk wrote:Also, please don't tell at me for being an SL with less than ten hours of xp. You are Moto.PR in-game? If I ever see you, i'll say hello and join your squad!
What? You can do this? Oh my God. I can't believe this!DesmoLocke wrote:Sounds like you're more of a "newb" rather than a "noob". A newbie is just someone new to the game and inexperienced. A noob is a boob or asshat that is inexperienced and not trying to learn the game.

Re: Logi help for a noob SL
Cavazos, my name is same in game, PolishKruk.
Thanks for all of the feedback guys. Really making me want to continue to lead squads to a brutal and bloody death. Unfortunately I'm starting to have the same issues a lot of guys on this forum are dealing with. I can understand people that don't have a mic, it's annoying but not the end of the world. But why do you even bother joining a squad if you have ZERO interest in teamwork? No point ranting here since those noobs will never bother to come here to see this anyway. Maybe I should just start kicking guys from the squad that don't want to listen. Like I said, I'm fine with no mic but when I'm trying to get the squad together and guys just go there own way... Well I guess I just solved my own problem.
Again, I can't thank you guys enough. This is a great community and I hope to make it even better!

A good way to round up teamwork is to ask every individual by name and their desired kit, if they have a mic or not as soon as they join or at countdown screen.PolishKruk wrote:Cavazos, my name is same in game, PolishKruk.

Thanks that is a great point. Of course there are still plenty of people out there that want to run lone wolf.OldGoat5 wrote:A good way to round up teamwork is to ask every individual by name and their desired kit, if they have a mic or not as soon as they join or at countdown screen.
What I just learned tonight is no matter what, dont be shy. I just played an insugency game where nine squads and a commander said about ten words to each other in the first 25 minutes of the match. I started relaying infantry movement from my OP and then the chatter and teamwork took off. It was crazy to all of a sudden have squads and the CO calling out threats and requesting and offering support.
Maybe I'm looking into that a little too much but I think it's very easy for a SL to get caught up in his little war with his five or six guys and forget about everyone else. If no one says anything then everyone seems content to let that be the norm. I know I'll be doing a better job of making sure there is at least some communication and transfer of intel going on at the intra squad level.

The only problem with that is that I deafen myself at most map starts to avoid the usual incessant Mumble spam.OldGoat5 wrote:A good way to round up teamwork is to ask every individual by name and their desired kit, if they have a mic or not as soon as they join or at countdown screen.
Keep learning the game and squad leading PolishKruk. The community always needs good squad leaders!

Re: Logi help for a noob SL
That makes me wonder if you can bind mumble shortcuts to squelch comms. Say mute squad and local chat for when you are trying to communicate with other SL's or the CO. Guess I'll dive into the mumble options to see what I can find!DesmoLocke wrote:The only problem with that is that I deafen myself at most map starts to avoid the usual incessant Mumble spam.

Also, I am a terrible insurgence SL.

Re: Logi help for a noob SL
You can create new key bindings to deafen yourself, but you can't isolate channels. You just have to tell your squad to be quiet on the comms for a moment.
And if you have an issue with lone wolves in your squad, try calling them by name twice and telling them to regroup with the squad or you will kick them. Also try at least once by text to get their attention as some players have their speakers off.
