Win7 64 Hard crash to black

Post by Sl1pperyJ1m »

Hi, I recently installed PR and immediately started to get frequent, random crashes to black screen with the last fraction of a second of sound looping. It's not to desktop and nothing but a hard reset will clear it.

The crash is always in actual gameplay on a map. It could be within a minute or it might be 20 (usually a few minutes).

I've tried a full uninstall and re-install but no luck.

I also tried playing some other audio in the background to see if it was just the display that was frozen, but the audio stopped at the same moment as the crash, so it looks like Windows is frozen.

Nothing in the Windows event logs or the PR log.

The PC plays BF4 fine.

When I start PR it always wants to run as admin. Is that normal?

Any ideas?

does this lockup occur when playing PR or any other game?

do you have any other programs running in the background? anti virus monitoring devices/tools?

do you go to BSOD? message?

could go into safemode and run for malewares to be on the safe side

how long have you had this PC?

how long did these problems start

anything you installed recently or added to your hardware that may have something to do with this?

The lock up only happens in PR. Hours (and hours...) of BF4 without problem. Ditto for FSX and Photoshop.

I just did a test with almost every non-stock background tool and service shutdown and still crashed. Microsoft Security Essentials was running, with the PR install folder excluded.

No BSOD or message that I can see. The monitor stops receiving a video signal at the time of the crash.

Did a scan for malware in safe mode, nothing there.

The PC is a couple of years old and has been rock solid.

This only happens while actually playing PR which I just installed for the first time yesterday. I'll be running along in game and the whole rig just locks solid.

I'll run a memory diagnostic overnight too, but I'm not optimistic I'll find anything.

have you checked in the event manager? I was getting kernel power 43.

I am getting crashes on and only on Euro truck sim 2 on high/ultra graphics (low/med is OK), on testing also on 3D Mark Sky diver, but not on PR or Batman arkham. 99% its an insufficient 12V rail on my PSU, but as PR is more a CPU user its unlikely to be that.

I'm 2500k/970 what PSU do you have any OC?

Try out the 3d Mark demos free on Steam.
