If you have one, have you tried switching 3ds Max from running on your dedicated gpu to the integrated graphics chip or vice versa? I've had somewhat similar looking issues in max on my laptop as well and that prevented them from happening. Might be different issues though.

Ah, so it is not just me having this problem. ;-)

Thanks, I will try that Adriaan. Only have to find out how to do that though because I never did any thing like that before. I will let you guys now if it solves the problem.

Mean while I just used the old desktop which has Vista. (I honestly never thought the day would come at which I would be glad for the fact I have a PC with Vista LOL.)

However, this is what I have been working on...

I created the windows and improved the models shape. I still need to add some little details and I will model the cabin roof again as well. Once those things are all done I will downgrade the interior to the 3rd person model standard and then the 3P model is done I guess.

Tri count will be around 9,700 for the 3rd Person LOD_0.

Kind regards,

Forgot to ask,

Do I have to weld the windows to the model? I guess I have to, but the thing is when I attach the the windows to the model the entire model becomes transparent.

They don't have to be welded

All right, so I just have to move all the verts in a way the windows fit without any gaps in between them and the actual model?

Hi,

Another quick question, I am starting with my 1st person model right now but can I make a separate file for that model, or should all the LODs with the 1P and 3P model be in the same max file? I would like separate files since it works easier IMO.

given it's super easy to merge and alter that later, not really an issue :p

Okay thanks, in that case I will make seperate max files for both the 3P and 1P model.

Just make sure all use the same unit setup. I've had some export work where everything was different scaled. Was horrific :D

Yeah, making sure everything was setup in meters was the first thing I did. I have been using Rhino his tutorial on how to create a simple structure quite a lot, this was one of the verry first things I learned there.

Mr.VdHeide wrote:It has been a while since I last posted progress as some of you may have noticed. The main reason for that is that I bought myself a new (game)laptop which I am currently trying to get to the highest level of performance possible. I also installed 3DS MAX 9, but I am having this really annoying bug:

Image

Does anyone know how to solve this bug? It really makes it impossible for me to model anything on my laptop so I hope someone has a fix for this.

Some tech-info

- Windows 8.1
- 64 bit (have a 32-bit 3DS MAX 9 version though)
- Intel i7 4720 HQ 2.6 GHz (3.6 on turbo mode)
- AMD Radeon M265X
- 8GB RAM

Kind regards,

Dj.
When that bug occurs, you can get rid of it by restarting the explorer.exe process in Process manager. Still very annoying, but at least you can get your screen clear without restart.

Thanks Lucky!

Again a question, I used the scale tool today:

Is it okay to use this, or does it bring issues?

Okay, well I do think I will have to use it because my model right now is a bit too small, while the overall shape is rather good in my opinion. It was really hard to shape this model up out of nothing with just photo's as reference since I couldnt find proper blue-prints anywhere. Right now the model is 6.3 meter while it should be 7 meter.

might have to be changed either way to fit PR soldier models but yeah, I take it's still one model attached? Should be fine to scale it. Just don't do it too much in seperate x,y z directories or that could fuck up the xform which is no joke to fix :( .

What do you mean with:

''I take it's still one model attached?''

The current model is except for the wheels and glass parts, which are not attached to the rest of the model and the flash lights which are just attached, completely welded. So right now pretty much everything is welded, just not the parts that should stay separate or would cause smoothing problems when welded (the lights on the side of the cabin)

Scaling in Element mode should not cause any issues, but scaling in Object mode will. You can still do it though as long as you always reset the object's transform afterwards, using the Reset XForm utility.

Hi man! I noticed your thread about starting on the Panhard :D great stuff seeing such dedication. I was wondering what the status on this one was however? Seems the biggest next step would be UV maps?

Yes, Panhard. :-D

Status on the YA-4442:

The 3rd Person model LOD_0 is as good as done, it just needs some minor improvements. When it is completely finished I will create the 1st person model. All of that can be done pretty fast actually, I really think 5 more hours is all it will take to get this baby ready for the UV maps. The UVing itself is probably going to take a while though. I may actually try to make something simple and small first before I start UVing this one.

So there are still quite a lot of things that need to be done, but I / we will get it done.

Some progress.

I have scaled the model in element mode like Adriaan told me to do and I have optimized the model even more lowering the tri-count to: 9790. Yet the truck still has it detailed interior which I will remove as well so the tri count will be even lower when the 3P model is finally done. :D
