Low FPS in awesome computer

Post by reijulio »

Ahoy there ! I have been playing PR for two years now, but I have always been irritated by the fact that on most urban maps, my game runs at 20-30 FPS, while I run BF 4 on ultra for example, at 40.
Im running Project Reality on max graphics.
Specs:

Windows 8
GTX 970
AMD FX-6100 Six-Core processor
8GB RAM

Any tips to improve the performance? D:

OBS: When play on max graphics, the GPU usage never goes over 9%, RAM 40% and CPU 30%. Never.

Pls halp D:

welcome to PR.

CPU will be limited to 1 core and won't use all of it, nor does your GPU have much impact on performance.

from the way you're describing your frames, it seems normal. some maps are worse than others, and some are better than others, and gamemode plays a role (including flag and cache locations)

my advice is to drop to play with your settings. I run an i7 4770k and a 760 and have everything down to low just to get the best performance.. but if you are recording your gameplay, then you'll just have to bite the bullet and get used to mediocre frames.

remember that this game is from 2005, BF4 is recent... of course BF4 is going to be optimized for newer gen systems

Yes, I am aware of that ...
Still, some people say that the major problem is the OS. They say Windows 7 works well with PR, getting good FPS in modern computers. Even Windows 10 was getting nice performance. But as for Windows 8, it has problems.

If you're bothered with low framerates, simply overclock your budget CPU to ~4GHz or higher (not advisable if you're new to overclocking and lack sufficient cooling for your AMD processor) preferably buy a new 6th generation CPU from Intel.

OP, I use a two PC streaming setup. I still get dips into the high 30s on Fallujah at times while streaming.

Gaming PC
CPU: Intel i7 4930k @ 4.3 GHz
GPU: 2x GTX 780 in SLI (waiting for true SLI support from Epic and Nvidia)
RAM: 16 GB @ 2400 MHz
SSD: 250 GB Samsung 850 Evo
Headsett: Sennheiser PC360

Streaming PC
CPU: Intel i7 4790k @ stock 4.4 GHz
GPU 2x GTX 780 in SLI
RAM: 8 GB @ 1600 MHz
SSD: 250 GB Samsung 840 Evo
Capture card: AVerMedia LiveGamer Extreme GC550
Webcam: Logitech C920
Microphone: Audio Technica AT2035
Audio interface: Behringer Q1002 USB

I would actually be better off playing on the 4790k system as that has better single thread performance than the 4930k as previously mentioned. It's an old game engine limited to one core unfortunately.

You can see my FPS in this video.

While it's smooth enough, I think the only way I could get it to feel smoother is by using a monitor with adaptive v-sync technology like G-Sync or Free Sync.
