The thing is that you will never be a pro sniper in this game.. It's just not meant for it. You can get some kills but in the long run it won't affect the outcome of a match that much.

Are you sure? I've seen some extremely good sniper teams (teams!) do really well and positively affect the outcome for their team.

But OP, how long have you played pr? Be real. This game isn't like battlefield 4... you don't sit on top of a electrical tower all game and not move a inch.

If you can see the enemy, the enemy can see you.

Have your sights locked on a target? Good, the enemy has his sights on you too.

In my personal experiences the past 3 weeks or so, I haven't seen many successful sniper teams. Either they are not even near a objective or enemies by that matter, or they are just wasting our logis to get to a spot. But Practice on coop and or a local server. (With the training boot camp map). No one is perfect with the sniper kit.

Because the spotter can see whether your shots are too high from the target or too low more better from a distance. Also they are additional eyes, seeing any enemies the sniper would miss since the sniper rifle would need to be unzoomed to look to another direction and then zoomed. Little to no frustration.

Also they laze targets for infantry which I think snipers can do, but it takes 15 seconds to switch to GTLD and back to sniper rifle, and provide commanders intel through their observational role.

Not only that, but they can help defend your sniper position because two men are better than one and one person communicating with other squads and commander can give you that needed information on where the enemy you are trying to find is at, and when the squad needs cover.

Without a spotter, it can be rewarding in some cases, though you are often aiming blind, and of course you'd be killed quicker since you don't have the protection, guidance and squad member communications of a Spotter.

In the end, you don't have to do too much, just do what you feel is fun and engaging with a hint of teamwork to help the team out. This isn't some reality simulator, it's a mod that achieves a high ratio realism to FPS while balancing gameplay values - making it fun, immersive, challenging, rewarding and realistic.

I'd like to point out that the russian sniper is the worst of all. Fucking inaccurate piece of donkey kong poop. You can literally aim for 10 seconds and still miss. British sniper is just best.

Sniping really works on some maps and it really doesnt on others for a variety of reasons. On 1km and 2km maps weapons wise because of the view distance there is no advantage from a sniper over an marksman rifle. The main thing of a sniper is that he can insert almost everywhere. Figure out where friendlies attack or where the enemy attacks from, then position yourself in a way that the enemy is exposed to your fire. That works better than betting on the range from behind friendlies.

The fact is there is no need to FORCE a team of people just to be able to operate the Sniper kit. This is a condensed environment battle simulator. Squads in real life are bigger than 8 people.

So for the scale of environment we have, a Sniper operating by himself is perfectly realistic, and functional to game play, and they should just join a supporting role Squad, where we don't tie up 1 whole squad just for the 1 role 1 player can fill perfectly.

Agree wholeheardetly. A lone sniper should just join trans or something or even CAS where he could have eyes on AA and keep it unmanned. Just dont talk if you dont have to. Depending on the map though a duo with a spotter can gain a great advantage through the grappling hook. There are just 2 sniper kits. I get the hate on recon squads who block a spot and then take the marksman rifle from infantery squads when the ran through the sniper rifles but other than that the hating on snipers is exaggerated. Imo its okay there is a single kit that lone wolfs can play in an integrated way.

I hear this sentiment a lot. The kind of statement that's a dead giveaway that someone has never played Marksman. Marksman seems comparable on paper, but in practice it's much closer to Automatic Rifleman than Sniper. There's no substitute for 1-shot kills!

I always thought snipers are fucking useless in PR. But i've recently experienced some situations where a sniper in my 6-8 men squad was extremely useful. Covering the squad on long range and distracting enemy infantry from an upcoming close quarter assault.

Sadly the most snipers are still fucking useless. I only know a handful of people that can do the job properly.
Spotters are useless. Medics do the trick if the sniper doesn't wanna wander alone.

1. Being prone doesnt help. Fire in standing or crouched position while peaking over some hard cover, so in case you get shot at accurately you can just dive down into safety. If youre prone in those situations youre simply dead because you will have to crawl back into safety which will most likely last a couple of seconds.

Btw theres little to no difference between firing in prone, crouched or standing position. Im not sure if thats still the case but i know for sure that in previous versions there was 0 difference.

Edit: The deviation indicator says standing is a bit less accurate than shooting prone or crouched. No difference between crouched and prone position though.



2. Spotters are useless. You want a medic with you. Dont listen to the other people telling you that you need a spotter. Just because thats how snipers operate irl doesnt mean its necessary in a video game.


3. Try to trick enemies as much as possible. Try to avoid people finding out where exactly you are.

For example if you see a full squad at the corner of a long wall, do not shoot the guys standing in front of the wall but wait for one guy to peak around the corner into the next street. Shoot this guy, the rest of the squad will think shots are coming from the next street where this guy was peaking into since noone else is getting shot at. Once they smoke into wrong direction kill the guy again that gets revived. Proceed with killing the others, avoid being too obvious about your location.

4. Try to avoid shooting people that will fall into safety. This will just make people search for you. Whenever you shoot be sure you will have high chances to separate the victim from his squad for a long time. Like when theres enemies in a t-building it doesnt make sense to shoot the guys in the windows since they will just fall into cover and easily get revived. Lull them into safety, wait for one idiot to go on the rooftop/staircase. Kill him, you will still be able to shoot him dead dead when hes getting revived.

In general always try to kill one guy dead dead before you move on to the next target unless people are already shooting at you or are insurgents.



5. Always try to get into a position where enemies either cannot reach you (like places where you can only go with a helicopter) or have to pass some houndred meters across open ground. Sometimes its better to be in the obvious spot that they cannot easily reach than having a well covered place but people could sneak up on you from behind.



6. Practice a whole lot. Always aim for the hips since lots of factions have body armour. Launch a client coop game on al basrah, shoot insurgents for hours. You will get a feeling for your shots pretty fast.



7. There is almost no bullet drop. Shots up to 600m have almost no bullet drop at all. Everything further than 600m will have around a quarter to half mil dot (most rifles) bullet drop.

Also please if you do a recon squad you do NOT need a sniper kit. You should search for fobs and enemy assets to either destroy those with c4 and GLTD or at least give intel to the team. Snipers do not necessarily belong into a recon squad in PR.

Recon squads and Sniper squads are inappropriate. Especially when a full server us running.

Most of the time in those 2 specific squads... THE SQUAD LEADER that has a sniper kit is useless.

I've been in squads where squad leaders take the sniper kit and just only care about them selves.

The only squads snipers should be leading...... CAS or TRANS.

No other squad should have a sniper as a squad leader.

Recon Squads are to S&d enemy assets. Not sit with a sniper kit with your squad looking like ants on the map.

I've found that on some occasions sniper kit is really useful even without a spotter. But it's only these occasions. For example, all squads have been locked/full/taken and I can't create my own squad in a 100/100 player server so I join some random squad where people don't communicate, start encouraging communication, that didn't succeed. Asked if I maybe can lead the squad - still no answers. Admins didn't do anything about it. So I just grabbed the sniper, hid in the giant T (Beirut, as a Russian) and farmed 10 kills in, dunno, 15-20 minutes by just shooting the enemy across the bridge (they had heavy defenses/foxholes there and our team wasn't keen on flanking and taking them out). Of course, I wasn't all that alone - I communicated a lot with other teammates in the giant T building (they just had cleared it out, but were pinned down).

So it's not that sniper isn't good as solo if he knows who/when/how to shoot and as the Russian sniper rifle is one of the sniper rifles that I'm familiar with, I helped my team by bleeding enemy of their tickets. If I had a rifleman or marksman in that squad, I couldn't have done the same.

And I agree with a poster who said that sniper can be useful in a full inf squad. I've seen that happen countless times - not only he can cover them in long view range maps, he can successfully suppress the potential opposition.

Anyway, people should shun upon those who take sniper kit and just go on their own business as it was another game. No, you still have to help your team. Use the map, don't hide in obvious spots if they're not covered by friendlies (if you're on a recce mission, try to relocate big time after each/few shots) attach yourself to a squad (doesn't matter if you can't join the squad) and talk to them. Lonewolf mentality is what is making people hate snipers. So, please, just don't lonewolf.

Also I agree that a "Sniper squad" should contain minimum of four people, as someone noted in this topic earlier as we have 100 player servers and only 9 squad slots. If a sniper and spotter makes a squad and locks it, their squad should be disbanded (in a full server).

The function of SNIPER in PR, is fulfilling objectives requested by the leaders of the infantry, and the team's commander. The objective of the Sniper is kill operators: ATG, M.G, A.A, MORTAR, OTHER SNIPERS, H.A.T, INF A.A, MEDICAL, squad leaders, SPOTTER and COMMANDER IN FIELD.

Sniper does not serve to FRAG, SNIPER KIT attracts death for the noob who insisted operated it. PR is not BF4

One infantry squad a few days ago I lead....

I had a sniper in my squad and he did good. (Heck.... I never seen such great accuracy.)

Apperently he was a sniper in the US army.

But I have a issue with people that take the sniper kit and just GO TO THE MOST OBVIOUS SPOTS...

YEAH... the crane in muttrah I saw someone up there. Had my squad member throw smoke on him and then knife him lol. (He wasn't far away from the ladder... Idk how he didn't hear my squad member.

I don't think holding it does anything bad, but maaaybe it re-selects the weapon constantly, resetting the accuracy. Maybe. I'm not a coder.

Holding 3, or even just pushing it never did anything actually. I dont know the deviation times in the current build, but when i started playing this game it was 8 seconds for the sniper rifles deviation time to fully settle. When pressing 3 you got an audio que for exactly 8 seconds (the heavy breathing) so this was just an easy way for you to measure when your rifle was settled. You can just count to 8 for that matter, none will do anything to your accuracy.

The best tip as other mentions is to just play alot of rifle first and learn the game. Another tip is to make your own local server, filled with stupid enemy bots. Now you can have a field day practicing on your head shots!

Your main objective as sniper should however be to fire your rifle as little as possible though. Concealment and reporting enemy positions is your main goal.
