Noob to CAS pilot !
hey guys
now before i ask for tips and advice, i'd like to let you know that im very good in Trans
and im qualify to fly any kind of trans, about CAS helis never tried it because i was afraid to fuck something up or probebly i won't be able to join CAS squad coz i get kicked immedieatly before the game starts !!
while i'll leave Choppers for another topic!
my question is about jet's and fixed wing aircraft's !
while im a fast learner and i know how to taxi on run ways and taking off...
my small problem is landing, i just can't land properly idk why maybe i get the speed wrong or some other worng estimates ! ( need more training)
but my biggest problem is : im using mouse&keyboard
should i use joy stick ? does it help me out or lets say PR support joystick ?
if it is which joystick should i buy or you recommend for a guy on budget while i try to upgrade GPU !
can be good with mouse&keyboard or its just no GO BUY joystick !?
any tips or advice would be appreciated !
Regards.

Re: Noob to CAS pilot !
Personally, I fly purely with keyboard (arrow keys for pitch and roll) and it works out just fine.
The best advice I can give you on landing is to practice. Go into the launcher and enable rcon (Options -> Global, check Enable Local RCon Commands, then use these commands to spawn yourself new airplanes when you need them. You can find the exact vehicle names for spawning in the PR installation folder under
<Project Reality>\mods\pr\content\objects_vehicles_server.zip\vehicles\air
As a last resort if you get the plane safely on the ground but aren't going to stop rolling in time you can bail out. You'll die but because of how PR/BF2 handles physics the aircraft will come to a complete stop in a serious hurry.

Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

Dont need joystick.
Practice and than practice more, you will 'feel' the correct speed to land, (depends on aircraft) you want to be be at around 900-700khm when at the start of runway and about to touch down.
Bind the space key to pull the nose up, this is my little secret (maybe others do it), its very useful in combat situations etc.
Btw, i don't fly anymore....too old.

Re: Noob to CAS pilot !
I also fly with mouse and keyboard, mostly only keyboard but when I'm going for ground targets and not using bombs, I use the mouse for better precision.
Landing. It's not as difficult as you imagine. You need to first lower your speed at around 800 but you need to keep the torque up to about 50 percent so that your jet doesn't stall and fall down. Then as you line up towards the runway (you'll need space so make sure you've got it) start tapping the W button slower than before ( start lowering the torque ) and as soon as you're over the fences of the runway stop doing that and touch down. Then hold S to brake and when your speed lowers to about 400, you can also hold the down arrow to help you brake as it is reverse taxi.
If everything fails, slow down enough so the landing gear goes down, touch down and exit the jet. You'll die but the jet will stop instantly.

Re: Noob to CAS pilot !
Heres a video on take offs and landings.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nt3UIRE0mMA
Heres how to dive in helicopters
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9DylLMw-9Q
My advice, don't talk shit. Otherwise someone like me with rip your head off and shit down your throat. Just practice, make friends, don't be afraid to do try new stuff. its a video game. Try and find a group of guys who already know what they are doing and learning.

yesterday i all most land the Frogfoot and just before i land and all most touch the Run way
game crashed and back at desktop
but now i understand it its about the speed and the way you land in a straight line in order to get closer to the run way !

Re: Noob to CAS pilot !
Buy a joystick. It took me a long time to get the hang of it, but I can fly anything with extreme accuracy and precision. People say that mouse has more accuracy, but I don't think they have used a quality joystick long enough. It's all about developing a feel for the aircraft, and the joystick certainly helps you in that respect. Also, a huge strength to a joystick is throttle control - you can set your aircraft to 40% instead of precariously pressing s, pressing w, and pressing neither to land.
I recommend this joystick:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EY ... d_i=507846
Very cheap, reliable, and has all the functions you need.
I'd give you some tips, but it's all about figuring out what works for you when it comes to strategy and mechanics. Buy the joystick and never look back.

I have this (cheaper and has better reviews than the suggested above, you even get a dedicated throttle):
Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Flight Stick https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001CXYMFS/re ... qwbX6B5K1V
I use it for flying jets. I prefer mouse and keyboard for helicopters.
Using a joystick gives you much better control over your movement while in a jet. You get a better turning radius than with someone frantically moving their mouse across the pad to maintain a radius. The best thing is the finer control love the throttle. I can specify exactly what percentage of throttle that I want when flying.

Re: Noob to CAS pilot !
thanks for your feed back guys
i went to Khamisiyah and spawned the F/A-18c while i had most crash with it when i was training on TEST Air Field !
while taxi and take off is easy and i used to think that the run way is small !
now i know which speed is good for take off
first landing wasn't that bad but the plain was smoking out orange smoke which is bad i guess !
second landing was successful and i couldn't believe that i did it ! (u just have to go out of bordar a bit and then turn back heading the run way... and i didn't need any marker
i just said to my self "hey just remember the tips and hope you don't fuck it up"
i must admit that the keybinding helped me out alot ! also tapping W is the key to balance out your speed and i guess this will apply to most jets but not that accurate !
i'll get the joystick in the future not just for PR but other games .
GG, thank you guys

I fly with keyboard and no mouse. Try landing with the keyboard only. There is no trick come in low like 100ish at a speed of ca. 800 for most planes and before the runway cut off all power and you should be fine. Practice on every map in local. I had a hard time too at first but now I wonder how one can f up a landing. Its so easy. Except for German on silent eagle maybe.

LOL yeah the logic was real then. Trees on a usable runway where multi-million dollar jets loaded with explosives take off and land.mat552 wrote:I miss the pre-nerf trees.
But yeah, landing on Silent Eagle isn't really that much of a hassle, try it two-three times and you'll master it.
