I recently applied and was accepted to helping admin the HOG PR server. I have contact with the majority of other admins, try to keep up with the server's activities and can say that it's a pleasure to be working with HOG's team.
While I expected it to be hard to play and accurately manage people's problems (some of them quite immature IMHO), I find that most of the admins are capable of pulling it off.
The admins are all normal human-beings, as are the people that play on the server. A mistaken kick or ban does happen, as does an occasional social-skill error because no-one is a robot. Those things can be resolved with little effort and maturity.
Acting admins are for the most part, better at understanding the game than a lot of the players. That extends to understanding communication, teamwork, and coexistence. It is their goal to be the barrier between those who want to play and those who want to make it hard for others. Happily, this goal has been sustained so far.
If I had a problem with the server quality, I most definitely would not have asked to admin this server. Being that the server is well managed and cared for, the players are looked after, and the admins are not jerks, I'm pretty happy to stand with them.
Presented below is my Certificate of Meritorious Service, granted by myself, one of its player base, describing what a player can expect on the HOG server.
Certificate of Meritorious Service Towards Player Experience
Granted for the following qualities:
Players who are disruptive to other players will be removed, as will people who like to use the game as a speak-easy for racism.
There is a very standard set of rules that isn't hard to understand and work is being put into coming up with further solutions to reduce their number even more.
HOG administration is using the tools they have available to empower all their admins so they can work as effectively as possible. No player has to wait for a senior admin to kick/ban troublemakers.
The number of admins will vary depending on the time of day/admin availability. Some admins have gone as far as staying up later than they really should just to make sure the players' gameplay is not hampered.
The HOG site is active to the point that most questions are answered by the end of the day (reasonable compared to industry standards) which is not bad for a group of guys who admin one server of one mod from one game.
HOG has streamlined its in-game systems so important things get spotted earlier by both players and admins.
Players will be required to join a squad, and should bring their social skills with them.
Players are not forced to do things they don't like just so they can stay on the server (rule breaking aside).
AFKs are regularly tracked so players have a greater chance of joining a full server.
Admins will not harass or penalize players unless they are breaking rules or upsetting other players.
