Free Candy Van: Battlerecorder Downloader

Post by Bluedrake42 »

Our community has built a small handy downloader that works for downloading battlerecorder sessions off our public repository. Thanks so much to SWAT- for his work <3
Description :

Every time you start the program, it will check the server demo list and if you want to save them, select the demo you're looking for and all you need is to click on 'File' -> 'Save'. The demo file will be saved in your default Profile demo folder. Same logic applies when you don't want them on your hardware anymore 'File' -> 'Delete'. Currently, there are only two informations visible : the date and the time it was recorded.

Preview :

Download :

> FCVDemoManager.exe (189Kb)
> Source code (Github)

Info :
> Virus scan can be found here, I can fully guarantee you that the program is virus-free. Download the source code and compile the project by yourself if you don't trust :

> I've compiled and ran it under Windows 7 and the Net Framework 3.5 but it should also work on newest Windows versions.

Why not just use the inbuilt demo downloader? Shows map, time etc in the overview.

This NEVER works, every time I tried downloading from the records it always gives me an error and forces me to find it manually and download it from an internet browser.

This is just our own simpler system. The in game one is wacky, this one makes it a little more straight forward.

I am sorry, but to me this thing seems completely useless. Why not just use a website based system like other servers? E.g. like NEW has it Index of /server/public/demos/
Do you plan on continuing to develop this? The only use i would see in it would be if you make it display the meta data (map, layer, round length...) and maybe if it were usable for other communities battlerecorder downloads.

...what? thats what we have...? that's literally all this is, it just interfaces with our public repository. If you don't like it you don't have to use it, I just put it here.

If anything its a useful programming foundation for windows executables that interface with server files. You could adapt this to a wide variety of needs and uses, you just have to think bigger. For instance we could create an executable for our admins that allows them to browse server logs without having to load up a browser. Not even Prism offers that right now.

If no one put nothing out there because "someone somewhere did it already" github could close it's doors. Thanks to the one developing this and sharing the source. Keep that attitude. :)

If someone has a usecase where this tool fits it was worth the effort.

Looks like Adware if somone wants to give it useful features do you need to keep the banner in there?

Did not work for you because the server was configured wrong. I was administrator of the South American server (i dont administer any more) and my configuration was operating properly. If any community needs help with battlerecorder setup/configuration, can contact me.

Sweet work :p love seeing tools made by the community. I hope one day we can get some meta data out of the BR files and get like map information and stuff.

It's a 278x31 logo on a utility that is being offered freely.

You can just clone the project and release your own version with your own or another banner :D

I would much rather do a website solution as an interface for the demo repository then. Since this is pretty much just renaming the files, it can easily be done w/o having to dl anything.
I also would not call this a useful foundation. The program has quite some flaws. When you start download the app just freezes for the download duration and you have no indication that it is downloading something or when it is done. It also fails when the required folder to download in is not there.
Still think this is useless, but if it helps you and your community my opinion does not matter :)

This.

For sure I'd download instantly if it was able to download from every server.

Can something be setup on the PR website that allows a end user to view/download any battle recorder from any participating server in one place? We do have PRSPY hosted on this website which allows all servers to be listed together, why not have a central place for battle recorder?
