Battlerecorder broken 1.3.5+

Post by STompa »

I made this thread in the support forums cause I thought it was an issue with me personally. But it seems like every single Battlerecorder for everyone freezes early into the game and u have to close the game with the taskmanager. Judging by the comments I decided to make a bugreport instead to bring it to some attention incase it was missed.

Are you sure your not using something like a v1.3.8 recording in v1.3.9? If the versions are at all different then it is very likely they will not work.

I'm certain. I tried to watch BR's just an hour or two after the game was played. Tested every version, same results.

Same problem. Freeze after one minute (recorded yesterday on NEW).

I'm getting the same problems, I tried with multiple FRESH BR files from different servers and it always seems to freeze a couple of seconds, up to a minute in the demo.

Yea crashes for me too and not getting any info out of debugger :(
Does anyone have a demo with only very few, preferably only 1, players in it? It is not really fun to scroll through 10000 lines of who did what :D

Well I guess I can get someone to join an empty skirmish server with me and outcap + send u the BR when I come home, hopefully. Will update this post when it's done.

A bit unrelated but: Mats how to you read those files? I assume they are simply saved binary and not in a specific format. I've been trying to find technical information about the battlerecorder but couldnt find anything. Would be cool if you can hit me up.

They are compressed with zlib. Deflating them again does not really make them a lot more readable, but at least can check the meta data (map name etc.).

No need if you dont have one. I can get my [-]minions[/-] testers to do it :p

I've done 4 tests, myself as the only player in the game.

------------------------------------------------------------
For the first test,
I enter game, respawn without any other action, without shooting any bullet and stay in the same position for 15 minutes.
The demo of this 15 min works totally fine and the main process of PR works fine without becoming corrupted or no response.

-------------------------------------------------------------

For the second test,

I entered game, respawn,
run to the first position, shoot, then run to the second position and shoot again, then the third position and shoot again, then to the last position and throwed a grenade.

This time, I played the demo and as soon as I reached the first position and opened fire, the main process of PR became no response.

------------------------------------------------------------

For the third test,
I entered game and run to the first position, throwed an ammo pack,
run to the second position and throwed a grenade,
run to the third position and throwed a smoke grenade.
Then I move up and attacked with a knife,
Finally i switch to AK and opened fire.
Then I wait until the whole process cost 5 min and then I disconnected.

While playing the demo for this test, it was all going on well at first until I opened fire with the AK and the PR main process became no response.

------------------------------------------------------------

for the forth test, using the commander's officer kit's pistol to shoot will also cause the demo to make PR process become no response

That is very nice testing, thanks! We already limited the cause down to firing of certain weapons, we just have no idea why it crashes in BR but not in normal gameplay.

We found the cause and are looking to solve it w/o having to miss out on a mechanic we implemented. The issue is the varying up/down recoil we implemented.

Nice work! Glad to hear. Hope the old BR's will still work after the fix :D
