SU-34/SU-30 thermals

Post by viirusiiseli »

IRL SU-34 has thermals for both missile and bomb, in PR it only has thermal for the missiles. I don't know why only for the missiles..? They're both supposed to be operated through the same optics.

The Chinese seem to have an externally mounted targeting pod with thermal sighting capabilities for the SU-30 aswell.

Here's the proof on SU-34. Note, the top video is from the Russian ministry of defense youtube channel.

Bombing video, Syria:

SU-34 thermal pod source
The planned internal electro-optical suite appears to have vanished in more recent reports, with claims that the Sapsan-E thermal imaging and laser targeting pod will be carried externally, probably on the No 9 ventral inlet station.
The laser/camera pod:

And here on SU-30 optics:

Wikipedia on SU-30 MKK Optronics

FILAT targeting pod
Domestic Chinese optronics including FILAT and Blue Sky (navigation pod) can also be carried after modification of onboard system. Just like the incorporation of domestic Chinese electronic warfare pods such as BM/KG300G and KZ900 to Su-30MKK, such modification was neither part of the original deal nor the upgrade deal with Russians, instead, this was implemented indigenously by the Chinese themselves during the incremental upgrades. According to Chinese claims, the domestic upgrade of Su-30MKK/MK2 were much smoother and easier than that of earlier Su-27SK, thanks to the western MIL-STD-1553 standard Russian adopted for Su-30MKK series.
FILAT (Forward-looking Infrared and Laser Attack Targeting) pod is an airborne targeting pod designed to provide aircraft with all weather / night attack capabilities.

Bump.

Also some more problems with SU-30/SU-34, and in general about jet-carried AGMs.

-SU-30/SU-34 missile sight is a bit off-set. The missile shoots severely below the crosshair when un-zoomed.

-Jet AGMs still have no splash regarding killing armor. I can illustrate with a video how hard it is to score direct hits from these planes if needed, and provide more info about why it is so hard.

-Lase-target AGMs are not the solution either, as lases often are not correctly right on the target and sometimes do not stick. Commander cannot place accurate lazes either.

Conclusion: Something like a 5-10m kill radius with an indirect hit is needed to kill armor with these jets/AGMs so it is not near-useless.

Pls respond

Can you provide a screenshot? I probably know what you're speaking about, but need to be sure.

Hmmm, you have no such modifier applied....

Guess i'm gonna make some tests regarding splash values.

Program title says for itself, we're testing a tool to change ingame parameters per-player to see if they actually noticing a difference or just being hyped by other people.
Currently we dont have splash values modifier, so virus pointed out to a problem in core mod.

This is just trolling right? Or am I missunderstanding something?

Could you also remember to implement the 5sec firedelay when prone for Stompa next patch Poxo?

Posting video. Check the bottom of the post. And yeah, ATM there is no "kill-splash" for missiles as there used to be... It is needed for jets as they are impossible to fly as steady as helicopters. Jets have all kinds of shaking and turning going on for the gunner to be able to hit armor with the jet carried AGMs. This is why right now these weapons cannot be effectively used for anti-tank purposes.

Implying you want more action and less logistics? No problem, once the aim-help and support for xbox-controllers is implemented in 1.4, gameplay will get a lot more spicy.
