For personal reasons, I am not able to use a microphone. Is this a problem or can I still get by playing?

You can still play, but some players will prefer you speak, obvs that's not an option for you so just do your best to communicate fast via text but if I were you I would not join any squad that stipulates a microphone/VOIP in its name unless you know the squad leader is cool with it.

It's more important that you stick with your teammates and follow instructions.

There are some servers that do not tolerate any micless players. (BASED EU/NA, NEW, NWA, PRTA, ...).

The other ones allow micless players to play, as long as you are not a squad leader (HOG, FCV, ...)

yes, it is a bit problem. First off you will not get the full pr experience. Second, most servers require a mic and will kick you if you if you do not have a mic. However, it would depend on your reasons. I am sure if you are unable to speak the community would almost certainly help you out.

Usually squad leaders ask players during brief time if they have a mic or not: and they usually kick those from squads who don't have mics. You're under constant kick-danger if you play without mic on "good" servers. One report and you are pretty much kicked. No way you'll get the full PR experience without a microphone.

Answer to question: Yes it is a problem. I don't like players without a mic in PR since this game/mod relies on good & fast comms.

You can still get by playing, no problem. Most Squad Leaders will often kick players for not having a microphone, never take it personally as this happens to many many many PR players including myself when Mumble isn't working haha!

Whatever your reason is, you don't have to tell me as I do allow exceptions in my infantry squad. So if you find no luck in getting in a squad, just join mine. Make sure you got a pair of headphones or speakers so you can listen to myself as leader and other members in your squad clearly and text in squad chat.

Either way, just enjoy your PR experience mate and ask questions.

You'll certainly have a very hard time without a mic.

If you're unable to use one for whatever reason, your best bet is to find a group of players to play regular with and who knows and accepts that.

In my squads, mic-less players have very little lenience: If my squad functions and a random 7th or 8th guy doesn't have a mic, but still does his job sufficiently and runs along nicely, that's usually acceptable.

Also, without a mic, you'll never be able to experience truly great squad performance in PR. It's an essential tool for skilled play.
