Vehicle tracking sometimes makes no sense

Post by Firepower01 »

I was playing Vadso yesterday and was crewing a Scimitar with a buddy. Naturally we got into a fight with a couple of BTR-80s and the two times we encountered BTRs we emerged victorious but were left tracked after BOTH fights. Needless to say getting tracked is more or less a death sentence for your vehicle and we were killed afterwards both times when we should have been able to escape and repair quite easily.

The thing that's curious to me is that the BTR was shooting us right in the front of our armor yet somehow this resulted in us blowing our tracks both times? I understand the situations where you're hit in your side by a LAT or something similar but it seems like getting tracked is completely separate from where you're actually hit, and needless to say this can be pretty frustrating.

You're right, getting tracked has nothing to do with where you've been hit. There is just a chance of it happening when your vehicle drops below a certain amount of health. BF2 doesn't directly support destroying parts independently of the main vehicle, so this is the only way to get it to happen at all sadly. :|

It might just be me but I'd rather have the vehicle detracking system removed if there's no way to account for the location where you're hit. Getting detracked is in most cases a death sentence and I'd really hate for that to be up to RNG rather than the other player making the tactical decision to shoot your tracks off.

It's funny when LAV-25 is absolutely good to drive even if it is tracked. Rather have "turret jam" and decreased speed (if that is possible?) but no buggy de-track.

Soon bit by bit, everything will be removed and PR will be like any other FPS out there.

Recalling a script and debugging it is okay, unless you terminate the feature forever.

The problem is this script can't be fixed to be more realistic due to engine limitations.
