air to air missiles
In reality, air to air/surface to air missiles explode before hitting their targets to help reduce the possibility that a pilot can pull his aircraft out of the way before it is too late. so far it doesnt look like bf2 will support this feature of missiles and will rely on a direct hit for the missiles to work. can i expect to see truly realistic missiles in PR?

Not all anti-aircraft missiles are proximity fuzed. In the case of the Stinger, there is only an impact or contact fuze, and a self-destruct fuze that goes off 15 seconds after firing if no contact with target. Sidewinders, on the other hand, do have a proximity fuze.BrokenArrow wrote:i figure if they want a very realistic mod theres no way around prox. explosions
We're going to try and be as realistic as possible when it comes to weapons performance, so not every corresponding weapon-type of each "faction" may function in the same way in terms of guidance (or lack thereof), damage and fuzing.

So will you be using optical or radio based proximity fuzes?[R-DEV wrote:Eddie Baker]Not all anti-aircraft missiles are proximity fuzed. I would like to see missles that explode's with a proximity, So that way if you are giving chase to an enemy plane you can't just shoot once and be on you'r way. With a proximity missle it might take more than one missle to do the job. Also if it detonated close enough it would shoot shrapnell and all sorts of stuff so that way you have a chance of getting away in a dog fight.
that would make for some GREAT figth's in the air

i just cant believe a plane in BF2 can take a missile and keep going without any difference to its handling or otherwise performance. planes arent very tough, 9 times out of ten id say if a plane gets hit by a missile, its going down in a hurry, that 1 time it doesnt go down, its not going to be able to fly as well as it was or very long.
