I think atlease 256 x 128 maybe a little bigger, or smaller...but somthing of a rectangle shape, not square. The river would run long ways. Im guessing thats a good dimension to start with since its half of El Alemain and that map was huge. I think the concept is pretty much, done... 3 capturable Flags, and 2 non-capturable flags, Both Main bases have a airbase for plane/planes and a wall surrounding the main bases, with a small gap in the wall so that infantry could reach the planes from the main base. It has to be small enough so that tanks cant fit in, nor Hummvies or jeeps. Also tanks wouldnt spawn in the main base so no enemy can go into the main base and get in a tank and spawn camp. The bridge would be cluttered, and if possible partially destroyable, and repairable to allow small walkways when partially destroyed. Two bunkers on each side of the main bridge that fire SAM missles for anti-aircraft. The two Capturable spawn are allready captured for each team and they Spawn Tanks, and if wanted jeeps or hummvies. The tank Bridge shouldnt be able to be blown up. The River would be UNPASSABLE!!! meaning that there should be steep walls so that people cant swim across the river. It wouldnt be Realistic anyways with a commando with so much gear swimming across a river. Any other things i missed, just post a question and i could awnser it.

you know this is funny becuase ive got something like that
, but its like a mountain chain with blasted "vallies" in it. Each valley has a guard post(this is a POE map) or two and there is 1 valley that is a "secret entrance to the US Airbase" . It is actually quite fun to mess around. believe it or not it was all accidental. I made the mountains to where the edges couldnt be passed unless u were moving at a crawl speed. By doing that you can go mtn climbing in a Hummer!!! its rediculously entertaining. And to top it off all the combat is focused in the middle of these mtns becuase there are 4 control points and only 1 is a main base for each side, rest are in the mid. i can post pics if ne1 wants to see em.if you want to make it so the river cant be swam across

here are some pics of the map i was talkin about. the only problem is that i actually have few pics of the mtns ill post when i can im busy till saturday. here are others. quick explanation: the pic with brown water is the water to be used, the one with the humvee is actually JUMPING across the river!!. The crater will have a better smoke effect if i decide to release. and the rest(if any) are just ooooo and ahhh
oh yea dont look at the first set of pics but the SECOND they are much smaller in size.

It is hard to tell with the maps for this game. We are basicly looking at a whole new style of play. All I know is that we need to think bigger than we used to. I am a custom map junkie and I download about 80-90% of the custom maps I see and try them out.
In 1942 I found that other than bugs and such, some maps were not thinking on a realistic level about how many people might play the map... from the smallest number to the largest. This created a major problem when I would try to organize a scrim on these maps. The battles would lack focus and we would be to spread out to really have those intense fighting moments, or two crammed together and die on spawn.
There were a couple maps that I found that seemed to be think bigger than 1942 but the maps were just not practical. They were made for 60+ people which would be great for BF2 but hard to pull off in 1942. Plus with the lack of custom map support without joining a mod, then it would be hard to get more than 10 people playing a map.
When BF2 comes around and we can see the full potential of what the engine will allow then it will be very interesting to see what types of maps can be made. Theory is one thing, but playing it out is another. Either way you look at it, it's going to be a fun ride!
