Project Reality server crashes?

Post by Jiinglelocks »

I just started playing 2 days ago and have been having an absolute blast, however I am noticing an increased amount of servers that get halfway through a game, everyone is really into it and working together, and then everyone gets "there is a problem with your connection" we all say our goodbyes quickly and get kicked, the server gets massively depopulated and a ridiculous 4 or 5 digit Ping reading. Is this normal? It's very frustrating. I was getting so into Battle for la drang with my squad

It does happen but to be honest it's not that common, you've had bad luck. Sometimes when you get the "There is a problem with your connection" text, the server might crash. However this is not always the case and sometimes it's just lagging.

Could also be a specific server..

Hey Jinglelocks. I must say, didn't expect that you're a beginner - you did quite well. Welcome to PR.

Yep, sadly server crashes are a regular thing in PR. Lag - not as regular. But, yeah, when the server crashes everyone gets the same "connection problems" message.

Well that is a shame if the crashes are just a normal thing, it almost seems like someone is attacking the servers occasionally and ruining everyones day. It can be fairly difficult to find a decent squad working with a decent team, so when you find that sweet moment and you just get kicked off it's a real pain.

Thanks Mouthpiece, I played the mod many years ago in the first months of release and completely forgot about it for years. I found it again entirely by accident whilst looking for a more in-depth, tactical and teamwork centric game, as other titles just don't come anywhere near what I would call "teamwork". Would like to thank everyone I've played with in the community for being so helpful getting me started! I'll be offline for 2 weeks but then back to kick up a storm with everyone soon after. :-o

Actually this tends to be the case. It's not a common thing. It usually is DDOS or fault of the server.

This is actually not the case. Servers don't crash often cause malicious actions.

That has been my experience, everytime the server crashed we were told it's a DDOS attack.

there are a bunch of things that can cause a server crash. FCV had, for a time, a lot of problems with DDOS, but that has mostly subsided.
Usually servers crash because of problems loading a new map, problems with connection from your PC to the server, or a server (which is a computer) just has a brain fart and needs a restart.

Its really hard to say what causes most of the problems, but often just rejoin the server and everything is fine.
I have had days where the server crashes 5 or 6 times, but have also had weeks without experiencing a crash.
