Use WIN key + R together and type in the run box DXDIAG then press enter.

When its done loading click Save all information ( button on bottom ) and save it on desktop.

Upload the file somewhere like Megaupload and paste the link here. Only then I can tell you what to do once I know what you have of hardware.

How to set a default graphics card | Nvidia or AMD - How-To - PC Advisor

That should help you. If you cant find BF2.exe or PR.exe on the list click add and navigate to where PR is installed then add PR.exe and proceed further with setting up as described in article.

Note : I am not 100% sure how is exe called now, might be PRBF2.exe its been a while and I dont have it installed now.

Two possible solutions.

1
This happens when these services are stopped :
1. NVIDIA Driver Helper Service
2. NVIDIA Update Service Daemon.

Start Task Manager .Click the tab "Services" .Click on a button named "Services ..." .Find them.their names .Right click on them .then Properties . Then Click on "Start " and then select Start-up time :
for the first ->Automatic
for the second -service > Automatic(Delayed Start)

2
Unistall the driver of GT 840M. Restart tha laptop. Get the DVD with the default driver and install it.Dont update the driver for graphics and never use latest drivers. If its new it doesnt mean its good. But auto update might screwed you up with that one. Also dont let windows install or search drivers on windows update.
When you get the option to run on discrete GPU consider it fixed.

Install the driver that came with that laptop and is tested and approved by the manufacturer. If you dont have the disk got to manufacturer site and search for drivers for your model.

Try to clenup old drivers with DDU.
