Fire/Bombs/Road Blocks - All that and more!

Post by waffenbaum »

See, I was thinking about how, when you sucessfully blow something up, it disintegrates into nothing but a charred skeleton that eventually vanishes.

Now, wouldn't it makes a bit more sense if say, a hit tank didn't jump three feet into the air and turn into coal on impact? Wouldn't it rather begin burning a LOT, and then eventually have the fire die out, to leave a big heavy block of steel?

What I'm saying is, the wreckage ought to stay behind for the duration of the round. It might even form a natural road block, which means a soldier would have to think about how to solve the problem. C4'ring the thing and blowing it up? Or get a tank to push the wreck out of the way.

I think having the still burning reminders of others mishaps as a toasty example would be be good! And as for spawning new ones, that wouldn't be a problem, just more scrap metal into the gaping maw of doom.

If not the spawning of armored/airborne vehicles should be limited for what you have to start with, not counting rubber landing boats. Man, talk about having to watch your back. That'd be just as hardcore was the 1 minute spawn time thing. If you only have the vehicles you start with, that would REALLY make players act more careful.

And the next point. Car bombs. Of course there's already the "lovely" C4, but I think the middle eastern coalition should have the ability to place undetecable bombs in civilian vehicles. Granted, this will only amount to anything if civilian vehicles is actually included, but then think of the possibilities!

Dumb idea next up, but how about giving the engineer the ability to set up concrete roadblocks? (Thinking tank defence) I'm sure there would be some non-akward way to do it, and it would certainly be nice to not have jeeps just busting into a camp. They'd be easily destroyed by grenades, C4, or tanks or plane fire, but the idea would be to limit the enemys approach while you set up behind the lines.

Last up: Music, a little ambiance booster supplyed by radios in towns. I loved the music in Vietnam, especally because it gave you a good heads up warning when some boob would sneak up on you with "WAR" blasting on the radio. Music probably shouldn't be included in vehicles, but I do remember hearing a soldier say that his squad had hooked up a MP3 player to a tanks comlink, and that the whole squad always heard "Let the bodies hit the floor" by Drowning pool, and sometimes "The roof is on fire" when in a firefight (But of course, copyright issues are a TO-TAL biaaach on this issue) Anyway, I DO have some excellent arabic music is it ever becomes something that's picked up on.

all good ideas except the music one id say, people get sick of that stuff quickly, ambience music is one thing but the vehicle music got annoying. One thing about the skeletal remains of the vehicles, thats an awesome idea but to further develop it,why not make it so that each team is limited to a certain amount of vehicles at the start,so no spawning of anymore vehicles after the round start. And possibly the only way to get a new vehicle would be to have the command issue a vehicle drop(just make a new command next to supply drop and a humvee will drop with a parachute on it).

That was then and this is now. Besides, I didn't even mention paradropping vehicles. But I wish I had, it's a great idea. (Except that it might look mighty stupid if the thing just falls out of the sky in a parachute, and it'd be WAY to much having an AI controlled Hercules plane dropping the stuff)

i just figured if you were making a post, you hadnt seen the old ones, which you hadnt, so now anyone else that views this thread, can also see old ideas combined with new ones =)

i really like the idea of being able to create roadblocks, you could get a few civilian cars, pile them into eachother, and blow them up.... now a tank will have a hell of a hard time getting through

There's already been a lot of discussion about how tanks do not disentigrate when they are hit, and they would make cover, but I agree that they shouldnt go away, and should have more realistic effects (Bf2's are good, but could be better)

for engi's placing barriers.... sure. just make it take a while to place, and we have a sligtlhy mobile definseive position!

and also, maybe the ability to dig a foxhole. sort of like the tunnel in bfv, except its not a spawn point, but you can enter it, and only your head/ upper body is visible, and you can use your own weapons out of it.

or maybe fox holes will be included in maps themselves, thats simpler.

What about placing certain vehicles and objects in maps that can be moved only by large vehicles. They can be pushed/rammed into blocking positions. From there other improvised devices can be added to them. Possibly if there's some leftover code ingame similar to the helicopter sling lines in BFV construction equipment can become useful. The maps have enough construction sites where cranes and excavators would be at. They would be used to move and deploy those large concrete barriers around maps.

I also love the idea of paradropping vehicles. Although, people might start dropping vehicles on others, but it is an excellent idea.

I know that a lot of non stationary objects create lag, but would it hurt to have bodies staying behind as well? Same idea as the burned out vehicles. "Battle-Debris" Especially nice for indentifying sniper posistions when moving into an new area.

THESE are the roadblocks I'm suggesting giving to engineers, I won't even begin to think about HOW they would carry them, but I think 4-5 in a kit would be good.

And something just occurred to me. All the vehicles have ONE speed only, which is fast. But what if you wanted to move your tank SLOWLY through an area, or likewise an APC? Wouldn't it be great if we implemented the sprint system in ground vehicles? "W" button would make you drive at regular speed, but if you pushed SHIFT at the same time, your vehicle would move at normal walking pace (Indefinitely, as long as the button is pressed). I never seen a convoy or an attack force running through a dangerous area, and a tank teamed up with foot solders wouldn't just blast ahead without thinking about the guys besides him, not at any point considering the mines and the rooftop RPGS and all that. The one big downer is that soldiers doesn't even have a walking speed. But of course, pressing SHIFT when in a tank or car might only make you average running speed instead, if that's better.

A BTR dropping with retro rockets firing would look amazing in the game.

When people starting going about paradropping vehicles that came to mind. I'm not exactly sure if the BTR-90 can be airdropped though. I have seen some videos of Soviet drops where armor was dropped. Very impressive seeing the rockets go off right before landing.

*looks at top of site.... sees big "REALITY" banner*
*looks at blocks the size of the engineer, probably weighing 5 times that of a normal person*
*ponders how an engineer would construct, or cary, 5 of these*

Static radios were in DC, DCR, and FH. I thought they added a nice touch.

Vehicle wrecks and bodies have been discussed. It was said that they would generate a lot of lag.

IMO after a while it would just get boring, and anoying. In BF bodies can't be walked over. I know I've gotten stuck running up stairs behind someone... they get shot now I can't move and am a sitting duck. Now having bodies stay there is unimaginable.

*real* bodies are pretty cumbersome too though. I can't imagine how you'd jump up a stair and over a body at the same time.

And as for the pylons, they could be transported on the back of a truck, and then picked up and placed, very slowly.

The radios could possibly be blown up. setting them as a destroyable object and designating a sound loop to them. If someone got bored or annoyed, shoot the radio.

I like it! I think it would slow down the engineer somewhat :D

SO...why not give him one of these!!!
