Where has all the loyalty gone?

Post by =MeRk= BluFFeR »

So, I have been reading a lot of the PR servers feedback section for quite some time now and I am truly amazed how shocking this has become.
Not one server has consistent "good" feedback, yet the time and energy that some people actually put into arguing about the servers and won't put any time or energy in actually helping seed good quality servers that are known to be very well admired and could quite well gaurantee a quality game most rounds bewilders me.

Can anyone explain why this is? Because I am a loss why the best servers ( and there are a few, still sitting there in the server browser empty) have been abandoned and left out to dry. Why are you all willing to putting up with less than average servers and spend so much time arguing the toss rather than keep to good servers alive and kicking!

I am open to and explanations.......

Good Evening,

1. Lack of mature admins that are not self serving.
2. Ghosting is a huge problem with no way to prove it outside of objectively watching the battle map/flow.
3. Teamswitching is rampant.
4. No one wants to read a damn thing before opening the game.
5. AAS mode is 90% of the maps played. Based on observation since I haven't got a response on building statistics from either the PR Master server or from any other log file. Please note that this is not because I love INS but rather it is based on observation of maps chosen based on scopes and assets. Damn COD newbs. :p

I could go on and on but suffice it to say, it is still a good game. Team up with a good squad made up of your close friends. With this, you can overcome most of the obstacles because people who play like the above do not have the "stamina" to play a long tactical map where thinking is involved. It is now the "Twitter" generation as in, if you can condense the manual into 120 characters, comprehension is lost.

8-) :D

OD-S had pretty great feedback, just lacked the man power to keep it running.

Most veterans will join f.ex merk if its up, but just jumping on a server with no other players on with the hope that admins and other players will join is not something most people will do. If you have at least and admin on the server to show intent to admin that day, you will get some, and then one can have a loyal seeding base or hope to the gods.

Honestly one of the bigger problems for the OD-S server was getting it fully seeded as it sometimes took a couple of hours and by then the clan members was tired of not playing. Seeding is not for everyone.

People are lazy fucks that's why. "time and energy " - you answered it yourself

And besides, say you jump on your favourite server a couple of hours before you actually start play. One of 3 things happen:
1. Nothing. No one or few joins and you leave and go to a populated server/alternatively sit in an empty server all evening
2. Server gets gets seeded, but due to no one expecting it there are no admins present. Leading to no maps being set and so on.
3. Server actually gets seeded and you have a good time.

Which one do you think is most likely to happen?

Seeding a server is a joint effort, much better if done organised. It's not a one man job. So maybe ask yourself what happened to the communities that kept these servers running instead?

How is AAS a problem? Best game mode, because Insurgency is boring as hell 90% of time because BLUFOR most of the time cant man up and attack or just sits and camps. Another problem is people on Insurgent side goes full retard, because "deaths does not matter".

Insurgency is unique but most people dont have the mind set for it.

Well I guess if you lonewolf or assetwhore than your probably right, doesn't matter which server you're on. I'll join a server where I know I can get a decent game, maps don't really matter to me, it's the coordination, communication and administration that matters to me in my old age now. Plenty of times I've pr spied and seen few servers up with reputation for none of the above

Nobody seeding MeRk.

Another reason is that people don't usually think of leaving decent feedback, it comes to mind mostly when the server has something wrong with it(from that person's perspective).

Seeding servers will only work if the server has a dedicated community.
Otherwise, people will join whatever server has the highest population(or at the least, 20+).

Seeding RARELY occurs at 0/100.
I remember back long ago a year or two, FCV would have a dedicated seeding community.
Now that's destroyed and a lot of that goes directly pointed at the staff.

So, to sum it up: regardless of staff, population = players.
No population = no players for atleast another hour.
Crash = population goes to other servers.

Well, the server feedback looks like that because people are entitled. As someone else already said, we only think to post feedback if it's negative feedback, rarely do we give a pat on the back for a job well done.

But about the servers themselves, I'd say that besides a small number of stickler admins that most of us have learned to cooperate with, the biggest problem is that you can never know if there are any decent squads to join. Many times, especially depending on the time of day, you can find only 1 or 2 decent squads and they are full. Then the rest are what i call "fake squads" where no communication or coordination exists. Usually when that type of game is happening there are about 10 unassigned guys that would've joined a squad but didn't because of the bad squad situation. Of course, you could always just make your own, but the manpower (and brainpower xD) you end up with is usually lackluster for the same reason that there were only 2 good ones created at the start of the round. That reason is a lack of good squad leaders, and it seems like even fewer good squad members (which of course discourages people from squad leading).

Now the problem with the "fake squads" is something that to my ear is an admin problem, and everyone's favorite stickler over at =HOG= is actually BRILLIANT about getting it taken care of and fostering games with decent, real squads, and at least minor overall teamwork. Of course, that's only when he's on or a few of the other admins so...

So pretending that the "fake squads" or "free kit squads" are vaporized, the big issue is mostly the same problem that PR has had for an eternity. The community. Not everyone, of course. Most are fine, but too many are too difficult to want to deal with them just so you can play a game and unwind from your day. The fact is that in PR you count on your brothers and sisters-in-arms for the experience to hold up. The level of freedom in PR is unprecedented in many ways, creating avenues for problem players to wander down, dragging everyone else's experience through the mud as they go.

Let's face it, the vets are mostly gone, and more and more leave every day. It's just the circle of life. And all this talk about the other servers (you know, the ones that sit empty all day, every day for eternity) is hogwash. The few servers we DO have ARE the game in it's entirety. Without them, PR is dead, and yet this is the way people talk about them? Your entitlement is showing... They are trying their best to support the mod. What are you doing to help if you think they do such a bad job? Besides maybe BASED, no one has our back if not the few big communities that operate the only populated, occasionally admin'd servers on this god forsaken mod xD. As someone else already said, where the hell are these other server's communities then if they are so loyal and great.

Open your eyes. No matter what servers we all decide to play on, it will always be the same pool of players, more or less culled by more or less proper admining. Peace

I totally agree with your timeline Sangue. I'd add 2006 as well. That year was "Golden" when some of us realized that our $49 investment in that vanilla BF2 shit game actually bore fruit with advent of the PR.3 mini-mod.

I have been loyal to the community through the years so please don't hate on me for saying, but to be totally frank, PR lost a huge and enthusiastically loyal player base as well as killed off entire clans when that crazy Napoleonic Era stand, aim, count to six or whatever the number of the month, fire deviation was implemented. We all loved every aspect of implemented realize; The bled out, correcting that insane dolphin diving, plus freakin' bunny hopping, etc....but Christ man that deviation was hell on toast for the more seasoned but loyal to PR gamers.

I'm pleased to see a return for the most part of more "realistic gaming" movement and have been partitioning my former gaming and clan mates as well as anyone new to give PR a try/re-try. It is after all, and always has been, the very best team based "game" in the known universe. Plus it's so complete! I'm confidant of the coming neo-golden era.

Honestly, the lack of seed probably comes from servers not getting the attention needed for that to happen. For example, Based NA used to be popped every once and a while but when the people who usually seeded got interested in other games (including me), it kind've died. From what I've noticed recently, people will join what ever server has the highest pop that doesn't have shit ping (or shitty administration).
