Building a fresh PC.

Post by Heavy Death »

So, I'm building a PC from scratch and I'd like some second opinions. My budget is 800-1200?, this excludes headphones, mouse and keyboard. Keep in mind, our hardware prices are kind of high, so the budget is eyeball figure.

I'd like to run new games at a reasonable quality with a 24" (1920x1080 full HD). Additional requests are a high(er) single core CPU frequency to be able to run PR and such without problems and prefferably non-OC CPU, as I'd avoid OCing and buying a massive cooling system.

Main concerns are GPU and CPU, so far I've been suggested GTX 1060 3GB and i5 6600K (I know, K).

Any other alternatives?

i5 6500 is good value, 970 is pretty much the same performance possibly a lot less - but last generation.

Very little point having +8GB RAM, but an SSD for OS and games of the moment makes things snappy.

if you are not going to overclock, dont get that I5...

instead, get an I5 6400... although the clock is much lower, the results are pretty much identical, and you will save a lot of money

I now its in PT-BR, but you can see the results on screen, these guys are very reliable

and for full HD, you dont need anything more than a GTX 1060 that you are already getting, a 1070 or 1080 would be a waste for full HD

btw, dont get the 3GB version, get the 6GB, I guess I dont need to explain why....

good luck!

High single thread performance and no overclocking? Either i3-6100 or i5-6600. The i5-6400 and i5-6500 are slightly behind the i3-6100 in single threaded applications.

GPU-wise get something from that list: (The lower the better but also more expensive)
gtx1050 ti
rx470 4gb
rx480 4gb
rx480 8gb = gtx1060 6gb

And please don't buy one with less than 4GB of VRAM.

The decision rx480 vs gtx1060 is difficult. I'd say if you want to keep your GPU for more than ~2 years get the rx 480. Also check out some benchmarks for games you play or want to play do ease your choice.

The gtx1070 @1080p is only useful if you aim for great future compatibility (there is no future proofing), you want to play very demanding games like witcher 3 or you want to play at a high refresh rate. (120hz+)

Also check prices for the r9 390 and the r9 fury. Those are last generation cards and can be sometimes found for a cheaper price. Speedwise the 390 is similar to an rx480 while the fury is similar to the 1060.

I have it locked down on the gtx 1060 6gb, and for the CPU i'm going to wait until january for the 7600K, as I hear it's gonna be about the same price. Everything else is not a problem. Thanks. :)
