Re: [Weapon] Colt Canada C7A1 NLD & C8(A1) NLD [WIP]
Hi,
I am curently trying to learn how to texture. I have started with texturing this rifle but I was wondering if there are like free to use BF2 or PR metal textures. I have seen some websites where I could download free texture's but would I be allowed to use those in-game?

try "substance painter", I have no expirience with what but it texturing with that program looks really easy, and you able to select 20-30 types of metal, wood, add scratches mud[R-CON]Mr.VdHeide wrote:Hi,

Why does the C7 stock have rails? What are you going to mount on them?
If you want Spawnable RPGs and SVDs for Insurgent team

Thanks for the replies,
CaptMiller, thanks for the tip. The main thing I am worried about however is copyrights and stuff. I would like to know what I can and can't use. This rifle will end up in game so to avoid trouble later I want to be absolutely certain I am not violating copyright laws.
Anyone??
obpmgmua, I have been wondering the same thing. I googled it today but I haven't found any pictures showing why there is a rail on the stock.

Just an early WIP screenshot:

The fore grip's texture is almost finished but all the other parts are far from done.

Plastic parts are almost done,

I am pretty happy with the results so far, especially considering the fact this is my first time texturing.

Looks really great! awesome mags, Have you done the body yet? because it looks a bit like made out of styrofoam. And could you tell me, how to model very small things? because it gets really difficult in max 2009.

Generally we use common sheets for certain items such as magazines. Specially for AR15 and stanag mags.
But if your mag fits on your weapon texture then that's not an issue really. But if you decide to use seperate texture for mag then you should use the existing stanag mags in PR. For the bullets you should also use:
/objects/weapons/common/textures/ammo/ammo_c.dds
That way the definitively look the same
But again, if the ammo fits on your sheet, fine again

Thanks for the replies guys!
anantdeathhawk, The body has a basic texture aplied to it which I made in photoshop. The texture is pretty shit. XD I will try to find a better one on the internet, if I can't find a better one I will create a texture myself. So all the black painted metal parts still need to get a proper texture.
What do you mean with modeling small things in 3ds max? You just zoom in more and everything gets larger, right?
Mineral. I have put everything you see in these renders on 1 large UV sheet. I posted a render of my UV sheet 1 or 2 pages back in this thread. I know about the stanag magazines and that we allready have textured thermold magazines in game but the thing is that I have slightly improved PR's thermold mags. I had to tweak them a bit since they had some errors. So that is why they are on my rifle's sheet. The only 2 parts which will not be on the main sheet are the Aimpont and the magnifier. I guess we allready have a texture for the scopes right? If we do that would be great because that would allow us to simply put them on my rifle and we are ready to go. If we don't have textures for them then I will go make some and put them toghether on one compact sheet.
By the way, what is the max. acceptable resolution to use for a rifle? I am working with a 4096*4096 px sheet at the moment because it works a lot easier but I suppose I will have to downscale it a bit for the in game rifle right?

Starting to look very nice DJ
The rails on the stock are for add-on components like extra batteries and other small storage packs.

Thanks.
Do you have any ref's showing those add-on storage packs? There is a battery component inside the stock itself in which battery's for the Aimpoint can be stored.
