Unify squad creation time
so, it sucks everytime i play on a server with 1:30 someone create early squad at 2:00
and we risk to activate the infamous squad bug.
why not all servers have the same time ? either 2:00 or 1:30? it will terminate the excuse for an early squad because they "didnt know"

At one point, there was talks about more similar rules across all PR servers. But it didn't get anywhere because noone wants to give up how they have it.

Re: Unify squad creation time
I would say the rules are pretty universal across the servers, and I dont mind some flavour to seperate one servers gamestyle with another.
All in all some things like squad creation times might be non influential, so accepting a standard is fine, but it really doesnt matter that much.

Re: Unify squad creation time
yes it is minor thing, but it gets irritating when someone initiate the squad bug and there is no admins online to restart. people get confused if its 1:30 or 2:00 so most of the time people create early squad "which get disbanded " but that will increase the chances of squad bug to occur .
i guess we have to wait for server owners to compromise

Squad bug is not caused by creating an early squad, Pretty sure its if you create a squad then switch teams?

Re: Unify squad creation time
But if squads are created very early, before the teams are switched by server, or when admins do other crazy things, then you can have early squad bugs as well AFAIK. I think that combined with giving players and equal opportunity to load in and create squads, the squad creation time was introduced. But both are up to the servers to decide. Some servers want to give players lots of time to load vs time to prepare squads, others want it the other way around.

It is what FFG and Mineral said in the end. There have been several attempts to unify rule-sets and serversettings between communities but often enough we were not even able to agree across all communities on something simple as a 'microphone required' rule.[R-DEV]Mineral wrote:But both are up to the servers to decide. Ofc it would be great if all servers would run the same settings and/or rules but I doubt we will ever see an agreement between all communities. 1:30 and 2:00 are the most common squad timings but there are servers with 3:00 and even 4:00 minutes limits. Usually the time you need to wait for creating a squad is in the server description which you can see when looking into the server info or when loading the map.

I would like to see however that the server put it in the loading message at least. Some server don't do that.

1.30 is the universal rule. There are scripts that stop people making sqds before that, we have it. AFAIK, sqd bug only happens when one creates a sqd than switches or gets switched.
All in all, I think 1.30 is ideal.

It obviously isn't.Tit4Tat wrote:1.30 is the universal rule.
Just so everybody knows. That script and its main features is part of core PR since 1.4.0. All servers have the option to make use of it.Tit4Tat wrote:There are scripts that stop people making sqds before that, we have it.
It only leaves a relatively small amount of time for squad preparation and inter squad organisation. That's why on event servers u usually have 4 minutes.Tit4Tat wrote:All in all, I think 1.30 is ideal.
On public servers it's always a trade for squad organisation time and giving those with limited hardware a chance to get an asset squad.
Not long ago 2:00 minutes have been the overall standard. 1:30 seems to be a new development and prefers those with older hardware. In our opinion 2:00 minutes is the most optimal setting to balance squad preparation and players hardware limits.

Main argument is, people load into the game pretty late (including me) so if 2.00 is implemented, there will be a good amount of players that will miss a certain sqd. Hence why I belive 1.30 is ideal, as it doesn't really interfere in the build up to a match and gives slow pc users that bit of time to load in. 1.30 is enough time to get across your plan and set your sqd up with the correct equipment.
Now would like to hear your argument against what I said.

Re: Unify squad creation time
Unless this being statistically proven, there's no way to tell if major part of people loading into game pretty late. "Including me" argument is not constructive in this case as you know, our mind always trying to use personal experience to affect knowledge about community loading times.Tit4Tat wrote: Main argument is, people load into the game pretty late (including me)
Speaking of personal experience, not so much time ago i had worst HW(crappy laptop i3-2350m 4gb ddr3@667mhz 630m 5400rpm hdd) through test team and still loaded around 02:40 which is pretty much enough to prepare for squad creation
Depends tbh. As i already said in this thread, it's personal for everyone but only server owners opinion matter in this case.Tit4Tat wrote:1.30 is enough time to get across your plan and set your sqd up with the correct equipment.
Again speaking from personal experience, i'm playing enough on russian reality which have squad time set to 1:30, and it's quite common for me to have both situations equally with squad ready and not, not depending on whom you expecting, clanmates, random russian players, random english players, veterans mixed squads etc. With 02:00 timer like on merk i'd have enough time to babysit everyone + at least 10 seconds for chit chat.

Re: Unify squad creation time
We have it set at 130 in HOG because we have a lot of players in europe, players with older systems and military guys that use the shitty base internet that take a bit longer to load...its been that way for 9 years....no one has ever approached us about changing it...we were approached about the no mic rule but we limited it to squad leaders and those using assets...I got two messages from female players who had mics but didnt want others to know they were women for obvious reasons...so we try to accommodate them...its never really been a problem.

Re: Unify squad creation time
I hear you Proxo, but going through all the practical options that a server admin goes through, 1.30 or 2.00, this does get looked at, and as I said before, 1.30 is the most practical number, as it gives time to load in and to set up your sqd.

Increase briefing time to 5m(or any other time) and allow squad at 2m, therefore having the advantage of still allowing slow players and allowing some window of time to discuss strategies.
This being said I'm well aware that this added time for planning would go under-appreciated in most servers but we should be optimistic.

Re: Unify squad creation time
We have 2:00 aswell.
I think every major server has the Squad creation time in the description that you can already see in the server browser.
Edit: I would also not be against unification. We could meet at 1:45

Re: Unify squad creation time
I personally like having MeRks 3 minute squad creation time, It gives ample time for speaking to both your squad and co-ordinating between other squads. But I would settle for 2 minute squad, 5 minute briefing.
I think for the purpose of squad creation, its better to increase squad time then to decrease it.

I might change FCV to 3 since I have to always deal with duplicate squads, mumble spam and sorting out my own squad during the beginning of the round.
Having a 3 minute timer would put way less stress on me as a squadleader/admin.
