Zeno, a powerfull enough server can handle it, and 200p should not be played unless its with events, or organized matches.
Xact Wicca is The Joker. That is all.

128 was a sweet spot imo. 12 men squads. If you worry about autistic screeching, thats something a server admin should take care of. It is a game that requires a certain degree of attention and coordination. Server admins who value that could be more heavy handed attracting players that are looking for that, while more lenient players can congregate elsewhere and wont end up squashed with an 5 to 1 killratio.

Re: 200 players anywhere ?
AAS maps with 2 attack flags and 2 defend flags at the same time would prevent choke points and do a nice spread over the entire map with assets and infantry covering this points. And to quote wicca the devs should probably at least allow a monthly event with 200 players on witch all ppl could sign up to like lets say a squad per each clan would bring the elitism out of pr's best so to speak.

+1 to bring normal size servers back.
The performance was just an excuse. I remember people talking about how "64 is max because there are 64 bits on the server system". SISU hosted 200p server while playing on it. And it was waaaaay back 8 years ago.
If you ask me, the best way is to get some enthusiast to start a parallel PR mod:
- 254 players
- completely abandoning BF2 squad system and substituting it with mumble groups
- distributed administration (clan-based)
But, this will only happen in some parallel universe. Stil, even if it's in another universe, it's a nice thought we are enjoying nice battles right now.
