Helicopter mounted guns

Post by viirusiiseli »

They are completely powerless now, with low deviation, low/no damage due to BF2 hitreg and no splash. If you want to use them you have to somehow attempt to snipe the enemies, which equals going extremely close (=unrealistic).

It was increased a few big patches back, and now removed completely, just because someone made a thread about getting killed by heli .50cal?

You guys have to decide whether you want them to be useless or not, because without the splash for example kiowa .50cal or attack huey miniguns do not kill.

High splash damage was a perfect way to implement things BF2 can't do correctly, such as high firerate, deviation and lethality.

You have to remember splash for vehicle guns needs to represent bullets being able to penetrate walls, small cover and vehicles in PR since it cannot be done otherwise. So when you reduce splash to "realistic" levels, you make it unrealistic because it is then much less able than it would be IRL.

Exactly. Real life also knows no rubberbanding and desync. You also have much higher 'resolution' and can actually follow your tracers much better. Although aiming might be a bit harder, not sure since i never fired machine guns out of a chopper irl. But i saw some helicopter hog hunting videos on youtube, so i guess it can't be that hard. ;)

Suggestion accepted.

Who were the people that complained about this before? It was at the perfect level of usability, but not OPness, but now its swung back the other way. The splash made up for fail hit detection and all that shit, if you added it to all 50 cals(ground too), I think that could even be a good idea too.

A guy that thought it had to be nerfed because of his 1 or 2 anecdotal experiences in a team that apparently wasn't able to shoot down a single trans chopper with AA/LAT/machine guns:

Trans CAS is not allowed on most servers, AA os broken, armour often doesn't have a good up angle so doing this is just retarded anyway. It's like the guy that put quad cannons inside of Ramiel's main, well fucking done.

So, is this what we've come to? DEVs not taking posts seriously/shitposting or even insulting users in a way that is normally frowned upon on the forums? This is done to serious feedback, while handing out bans and infractions for attitude problems, unhelpful post content and disrespect against DEVs at the same time? I don't mind getting punished for something, but at least have the courtesy to follow the same strict rules you enforce.

If there was ever an appropriate time for an infraction on an attitude problem, this would be it.

I guess I'll clarify anyway then, having no splash and the gun having nearly no deviation, it makes it too hard to hit and kill targets. Low deviation means you need to get the rounds to land exactly on the guy, while IRL you would have some deviation to take care of it and require less fine adjusting. And as mentioned before, you wouldn't have to worry about ping, hitreg, barely visible tracers or tiny walls that block .50cal rounds completely. But again, splash is a much better way to take care of this in game.

It might be good for ground .50cals, but the splash should be smaller since it is much easier to hit targets from ground vehicles than helicopters. Just so it wouldn't be used as if it had HE rounds. Should they get the same splash as helis in 1.35, it would be even easier to dominate infantry with a simple HMMWV than it is already.

7.62 from choppers had comparable splash damage to 20mm HE. This was void of any logic and got reduced. They still have splash that actually kills (unlike normal 50cal), but way less now. We also are fixing missing deviation on some fixed guns such as littlebird etc and increase their ROF to match dual gattling set up.

Not true, i tested the door minigun with willing participants twice already on the UH1 gunship, no splash at all.

I assume it is probably the same for the miniguns on other helos aswell.

See but that's fine, because hitreg sucks and lag is a problem in helis

I would assume it is an SKS where the rounds were changed to 2000lb JDAMs. Effect looks the same as the old JDAM area attacks.

The issue is that high splash not only fixes hitreg, it also allows killing stuff you are not intended to. Like people in cover etc. Smaller splash+deviation is the better approach to deal with hitreg.

Yes, please do that after we can shoot people through walls in the game like one would be able to do in reality

AA guys etc can use buildings to cover themselves perfectly and shoot out of a window, but you can't kill him when he goes 1m back to the side of the window. Makes sense.
