HOTFIX for Battlefield 2 v1.01 Coming Soon
First off, a HUGE thanks to all of you who emailed me in regards to the memory leak found in the update we released earlier this week (v1.01). Your emails found their way to our production team and theyâ$™re in the process of evaluating what needs to be done in order to get this fixed. In the meantime, and since the 1.01 update is causing memory leakage on some systems, we recommend that you reinstall the game and NOT the v1.01 update we released earlier this week.

Reinstalling Battlefield 2 will not affect your in-game medals or ranked server statistics. EA and DICE are committed to getting a fix for v1.01 as soon as we possibly can and will continue to keep you informed through this web space in the coming days.

NOTE: If you installed and are running the newer server files (Win and Linux versions) we made available earlier this week, please revert those as well. We found that those files had the same issues with memory leaks as did the v1.01 update. You can download the older versions here.

Well atleast they are willing to fix it within a timely manner, although I wish they couldve released this earlier because I had installed the v1.01 hotfix and I got the CTD.

So... do we HAVE to do this. Are they going to make the hotfix as a patch for the new patch.. or to replace the new patch. Doesn't matter.... I'm having more fun with Zoo Tycoon ATM, might as well do it though if it needs to be done.

The problem with the memory leak is server side. Only servers are affected directly by this issue. The only current fix is to reinstall 1.0. For all of us clients, we need to reinstall back to 1.0 because we won't be able to connect otherwise due to version conflicts.

A memory leak is pretty much a program that uses up a certain amount of memory to do something, but doesn't release it when it doesn't need it anymore.

Say for instance you fire up BF2 and play on a map. Once the map is done, it should be unloaded from ram and then the next map loads into ram. So let's say each map is 50MBs. If the first map didn't unload from ram, on the second map, you'd be using 100MBs instead of 50. On the third, you'd be using 150MBs, so on and so forth.

you only have to swap on install, and its not that bad haha. either way, EA deserves more credit, they did actually MAKE bf2. without which we wouldnt have project reality. i cant imagine that warcraft or zoo tycoon can take that kind of credit... being the base for a mod such as project reality.

You have to feal a little for EA since its no easy job to make a game be everything to all people. Yea, some issues you have to wonder if they even played the game, but on the whole its an imense job to make a game that is accesable to 12 year olds up to the aging boomers. Thats what's great about mods like Forgotten Hope, Desert Combat, and now Project Reality - they take a good base and build something hardcore gamers want to play. Thanks again PR team...I can't wait to play it!

I completely agree with this. I'm not to found of hearing thier sqeaky voices on the comms either. Barkin out orders to me...It's kind of funny. But, these are the same kids that are ruining the game for me by hoppin and floppin (in mid air mind you) thier way to victory. I am definetly looking forward to this mod. It hasn't even dropped yet and I'm allready happy with it.
