Every game reboots new computer

Post by Psyko »

Every game reboots new computer:

I just got a new computer built and here are the specs.

Intel i3-7100
ASUS B250M-k
Geforce GTX 970 Gaming
win 7 64 Ultimate
And a Power supply thats 450W

No matter if it's Project reality, Battlefield one, or Company of heroes, after a while something will happen in game to cause the computer to reboot. The games play at high frame rate, but they inevitably reboot. I assume this is a safety precaution to stop heat from damaging chips. I couldn't find a critical error reboot function in windows to turn off, do you know where it is in win 7?
Also I assume, the power supply is not strong enough, I used a website of unknown repute to calculate a theoretical wattage based on my components and usage. and it suggested over 500W

My question is, can I get more power out of my PSU?

And what are the likely causes of this, and can I turn off the reboot procedure?

Cheers,

Is the PSU brand new? PSUs deteriorate and lose power over time. 450W should be enough if its not old and overused.

970GTX TDP is 145W.
i3 7100 TDP is 51W.
(add like 20% to TDP, TDP means the amount of heat they are designed to dissipate, GPUs/CPUs go turbo when they're cold)
Hard drives take less than 20W

Install realtemp and check CPU temps.
Install GPU-z and check GPU temps.
Run a memtest (Burn it to a CD and boot with it) Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Thanks Alon, i downloaded those programs, temps were in 30s. and 50s when gaming.

i think the problem is i have a 7 pin and 6 pin adapter going into my graphics card, instead of 8 and 6. so im ordering a proper PCI-e adapter to see if that works.

(the new PSU didnt have a pci-e cable.)

I had this with a gtx970 with a 500 w psu that had two 12v rails. Once I got a single rail 550W it was ok (12V @40A). My Asus Strix has been shown to pull peaks of 300W.
