Command & Control on HOG
Having just played CnC on HOG for the first time in many years was a bliss.
A pretty much full server, we lost the previous round in Jabal on Burj as USMC really hard (even despite me taking down two APC's with a LAT!), we switched to Ia Drang night version and play CnC with our team as NVA.
Unexpectedly, the entire team worked together really hard straight from the beginning, having 4 squads on the defense, spread out in a perfect line from the middle AA to and beyond the eastern-most AA emplacement. With one squad scouting out for the enemy FOB deep into their territory.
Our squad being the western-most defense dealt with several waves of enemies right from the start while the eastern-most defense had something similar going on, thanks to our FOB being spotted quite quickly by a transport helicopter. Despite this, we held out very long, and our attack squad managed to destroy the enemy FOB. We kinda fell from grace pretty quickly when our defenses broke thanks to an enemy area attack that devastated us but we still worked hard to try and turn the game, having two attack squads creeping up on the enemy FOB.
Eventually we lost the game with 30 tickets in it and while I didn't see as much action as I would have on Fallujah or Muttrah I felt the game was tense and a thrill. Others must have felt the same because at the end of the round we still had a full server.
All in all I think the game went on for a little bit too long, but I enjoyed it a lot.
I hope a couple of admins will read this and decide to try out CnC more!

it is the best game mode, sadly, you were lucky, most players have no idea what this is and it turns into a disaster but i have no issues with it.

Its an unbalanced gamemode and not really fun with good players on both teams, high-level tactics in CNC are boring and unintuitive.
Its getting remade pretty soon, and I'm not talking about frontliner's gamemode.

That's great to hear man, really can't wait for it! It's very interesting that there's so much that can be done with the engine but sadly there's not resources to fully do everything.[R-DEV]AlonTavor wrote:Its an unbalanced gamemode and not really fun with good players on both teams, high-level tactics in CNC are boring and intuitive.

Re: Command & Control on HOG
Was just reading the PR manual.
It most certainly doesn't mention who is allowed to build the FOB in C & C mode.
One guy was Commander the other evening and kept insisting that only the Commander was able to build the team's only FOB in C & C mode.
I suspect that once the team's FOB is down, any SL is able to build the team's new FOB... can someone confirm this (and by "confirm", I mean, not guessing... does anyone know for certain whether any SL can build the FOB, or is it true that only the Commander can build)?
Thanks.

If it was run occasionally, people would learn to play it.
INS is more complex than CNC.
AAS is CNC for PR beginners, IMHO.

Everyone can build.
Again, Non of this matters. This game mode is getting a complete overhaul.

Re: Command & Control on HOG
Ok, interesting. But until such time as it is overhauled, will be very practical to know that I can build the team FOB when the first is destroyed.[R-DEV]AlonTavor wrote:Everyone can build.

Every time we play, the whole team (or, at least, the Commander and all the SLs) doesn't understand the importance of having crates at the ready at several points on the map (several, at least 3, in case enemy stumbles on one or two by accident).
Not one idiotic SL was attempting to setup crates around the map, and Commander was trying to defend the FOB! Hehe... of course, once he got himself killed at the FOB (I'd tried to warn him against it), it took him too long to get to my crates and we lost the round (since he'd got himself killed at the FOB, had to respawn, and drive a truck to my position... we bled out). I was the only one who'd setup crates for the eventuality that we lost our FOB, but he kept insisting that only the Commander could build a FOB in C & C mode.
He never learned the lesson though, was doing the same thing again today on Saaremaa, defending the FOB at the Control Tower bunker, then when he realized he was going to lose the FOB, he got a few of our helis destroyed trying to extract him from there. We had to mutiny him out of the position.
Looking forward to seeing how C & C is going to be implemented after the overhaul.

Re: Command & Control on HOG
What I would love is for a CnC-like game mode where capture points aren't predetermined. Your team has to go through the region in order to establish geographic dominance and deprive the enemy of their command base, airfields, barracks, etc. Kind of like CnC but with larger maps than Ia Drang and more outposts. I know that seems like AAS but it's not: that's very dependent on a game-based cap metric, this would place the onus of overall defense and offense on the players. How well you've "captured" something is about where the enemy is and what their capabilities are. No more focus on cap sliders. You have to think about what a "capture" really means.
Very curious if the CnC overhaul looks anything like this.

Re: Command & Control on HOG
Are the details of CnC detailed anywhere? The PR Manual is pretty thin on info.
Can any SL build a FOB?
If a FOB already exisits is it impossible to build another?
Can you move a FOB? Do you have to destroy the FOB entirely first then build the new one?
Or does deploying a new FOB automaticaly destroy the previously placed one?
Do assets built by the old FOB remain or are the destroyed when the FOB is destroyed?
Do you loose a lump sum of tickets removing/loosing a FOB or just ticket bleed till a new one is completed?
I know nothing!

Yes
You have to destroy 1st one to build another one.
Assets remain.
Ticket bleed
Now you know something

Agreed, there are many reasons why almost nobody plays it...[R-DEV]AlonTavor wrote:Its an unbalanced gamemode and not really fun with good players on both teams, high-level tactics in CNC are boring and unintuitive.
How are they planning to redo the CNC?
