need help on a new map
hey guys. i am planning to make a new 4x4 km map. based on (Jbaa) town in south lebanon. it marge the nice lovely wither . the unique towns chap. and the geography .i am facing a big problems on making the geometry of the land. and i am beginner on mapping. i need help from you guys , ill take the objects placing. and you take the lighting . layer. and sounds. if you guys found that impressive . pls contact me. for the good of PR.

mm i open it. but . there is a poblem. the map is on the border. i was planning to she be in the middle. real life. i dont think that the scale of the trees is the same on the real life. iuts bigger. jbaa on is 800m height. and the mountain close to it is 1300m height. (from the sea level). ok look. how i can contact you for that?

I don't think that you have to make the map 100% in scale. Like most of the good maps aren't. They're scaled the way that helps to give an idea of "real battle", but they do not represent reality. Like, do you really think that Muttrah, or Grozny, or Beirut and Fallujah are up to scale? No they're not. And this is the most popular maps of PR(imho they're not only popular but well made as well).

Dunno about Grozny but the map named "Beirut" is actually totally fictional, and ironically Operation Marlin is based on that city, dunno if its scale is correct or not thou
But ye, the scale isn't totally important and I agree it is more important to get the overall feel of the map/battle in that the correct scale.

and that is the point. Jbaa is a town. and all here outskirts is 18 Km square . the buildings is only 1 to 1.4 km. i was searching for that to relaise that this town can be a map using the right full scale

I read once that this happened accidently and the most statics was already placed before the mapper noticing it.
It was to late to change this.
Such things can happen but what is so terrible on a inverted fallujah?
Is it a game breaker? Is it better or more balanced when fallujah would be mapped correctly?
I dont think so.
For me it would be enough to have a nice map where i can play on.
If it's an fictional place than give it a name like OPERATION ..bla..bla.. to have no geographical / background issues.

As they say - gameplay is the king. I would rather play on fully fictional map that provides good gameplay options then a 1:1 map which always plays out the same (Muttrah, for example).

Nice, did you use a 2.048 heightmap or 4096? didn't the terrain looks too polygonal when using 2048 in squad with 1:1?
