voluminous clouds

Seen some footage of pre 1.0 PR versions where some maps have actual voluminous clouds in the air. I thought they looked really cool and where a nice touch.

Anyone know why they were removed?

I think Saaremaa still has some fancy clouds.

Kashan was only one pre v1.0 I believe it was. Was removed due to performance issues.

BG had them too. Any chance they could make a comeback? They really add a lot to the atmosphere(lol).

Not until they are fixed up obviously. Which nobody is working on atm. Feel free to try it :)

How did they impact performance? FPS, server or client crashes, or lag? Just asking out of interest, obviously there was a good reason for their removal.

They used up the effects limit and other effects ceased to render AFAIK.
